Trailer Features Gameplay and Boss Battle
The new Ratatan gameplay trailer gave fans a sneak peek at how the game works, with gameplay from battling a giant boss crab. During IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, Ratatan developer Ratatan Works dropped an official gameplay trailer for the game.
The trailer showcased Ratatan’s rhythm roguelike action elements, which combine rhythm games and side-scrolling action. The game will feature online co-op gameplay supporting up to 4 players. Players can play up to 100 characters in a massive melee battle.
Ratatan is developed by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani, alongside the original Patapon musician Kemmei Adachi. Its Kickstarter page began in 2023 and has since reached its console launch stretch goal, which guarantees its release on consoles.
Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025
Based on their Kickstarter page post, Ratatan will hold its closed beta on February 27, 2025. Ratatan Producer Kazuto Sakajiri provided some insights on the upcoming events and milestones that the game has reached.
He revealed that the game has now exceeded 100,000 wishlists on Steam, and received positive ratings on their Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. However, the game will not be available during the upcoming Steam Next Fest as the team will prioritize the closed beta test for the game. The team is now focused on delivering a better demo version for the Steam Next festival in June.
Sakajiri also gave an overview of what to expect in the closed beta. According to him, the initial build will play up to Stage 1, with additions of Stage 2 and 3 coming within the duration of the test period which will last about a month. Sakajiri also mentioned "The distribution of codes, start date, and time will be announced via Discord and X as soon as they are confirmed."
Ratatan is set to release this 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. There are no official announcements regarding a specific release date.
