The Flappy Bird Foundation Sets Intentions with Flappy Bird Revival

Blockchain and Crypto Claims Left Unaddressed

The Flappy Bird Foundation, the new developer of the new upcoming Flappy Bird game, released a statement to supposedly clear up their intentions of reviving the worldwide gaming sensation.

"The Flappy Bird Foundation is a team of passionate fans of the Flappy Bird game published in 2013. After the game was pulled from stores in 2014, like many others, we found ourselves unable to stop thinking about the game," the developer wrote in a statement posted on social media. "The Flappy Bird trademark and brand was abandoned following the game's takedown. Wanting to revive the game, we filed an application for the trademark and set out to bring the Flappy Bird game back to the community."

However, much to fans' dismay, The Flappy Bird Foundation has yet to acknowledge the claims that its Flappy Bird re-release is based on cryptocurrency. Since the original Flappy Bird's shuttering, different versions of the game have been built and released on different sites and platforms—in one instance, even as a crypto-based mini-game on the messaging app Telegram, which was reportedly done in partnership with Notcoin, a gaming web app integrated with the app.

The Flappy Bird Foundation is led by Michael Roberts—designer and head of 1208 Production, an indie production company that describes itself as a pioneer in the web 3 space, heavily involved in NFT and cryptocurrency. As previously reported on following the announcement of Flappy Bird's revival, a cybersecurity researcher by the name of Varun Biniwale had shared "hidden pages" found from the new Flappy Bird website, which indicate that The Flappy Bird Foundation's game could possibly contain such blockchain elements.

Games that incorporate blockchain and crypto have been dubbed as "GameFi" gaming, which allows people to earn cryptocurrencies and other digital currencies and assets like NFT by playing. The new Flappy Bird's release on Telegram, along with the raising suspicions of its mechanics combining blockchain technology, have raised eyebrows. However, these concerns from enclaves of fans are yet to be addressed by The Flappy Bird Foundation.
