MARVEL vs CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics Overview

MARVEL vs CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is a 7-in-1 bundle of classic arcade games featuring the popular crossover of Marvel and Capcom. This also includes the beat 'em up game that started the partnership between Marvel and Capcom, The Punisher, and all the fighting games that followed after starting with X-Men: Children of the Atom until the cult-classic Marvel vs Capcom 2. The game is developed and published by Capcom in partnership with Marvel Studios for the rights of their characters.

While the games themselves were released around the 90's till the year 2000, the MARVEL vs CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics was first announced during a Nintendo Direct held in June 2024. The collection features an improved netcode, online lobbies, training mode for each game, casual and ranked matchmaking, and a gallery mode.

Game8 awarded MARVEL vs CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics a score of 84/100, highlighting the game's value of having 7 enjoyable arcade games, addition of quality-of-life improvements, and the fact that the games can now be enjoyed on current gen consoles and systems.

Noisy Pixel scored the game a 9/10, where it praised the game's online game modes and online netcode, as well as the high-definition remaster of the classic 2D art style that the original games were known for. However, the game is not without its criticisms, as the overwhelming popularity of Marvel vs Capcom 2 might lead players to skip the other titles as well as load times being lengthy enough to be an annoyance.

MARVEL vs CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics Trivia

⚫︎ This is the first compilation of 2D era Marvel vs Capcom games to be playable on a Nintendo console.
⚫︎ The Punisher is the first game that marks the partnership between Capcom and Marvel, and it's also the only beat 'em up game to be included in the collection since the other beat 'em up games, X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse and Marvel Super Heroes in War of the Gems, are SNES exclusive games.
⚫︎ The "Juggernaut glitch" in Marvel vs Capcom 2, was actually removed on release. It was a glitch where Juggernaut could keep his damage increase buff indefinitely after using the Power-Up super then tag him out. This led to Capcom having a hotfix where players can toggle the glitch in if they choose to play with or against it.
