Elden Ring Nightreign Ramping Up Towards Release
Possible Two-Player Option for Post-Launch

Elden Ring Nightreign may add a two-player option as part of its post-launch updates. During an interview with IGN on May 23, Director Junya Ishizaki said the team had overlooked the possibility of playing the game as duos while in development.
In Elden Ring Nightreign, the game allows players to play either solo or in a group of three. However, if a duo opts to play the game, it matchmakes a third player. Ishizaki explained that the whole focus of the game was the multiplayer co-op aspect for three players and the classic solo experience of Souls fans. These put aside the potential of playing the game with only two players, and Ishizaki apologized for this oversight.
"So in putting all our efforts into that aspect, we kind of overlooked and neglected the duos aspect, but this is something that we are looking at and considering for post-launch support as well," he stated.
Difference Between Playing Solo and Trio

While two-player is not natively in the game, there is an option to play solo if you can’t make use of the three-player mode. The game is essentially built around three players, so solo players have concerns about whether the difficulty adjusts for those who want to take the game individually. Ishizaki said that even though they structured the game for trios, each player mostly goes around and acts on their own.
He explained, "So solo play is generally encouraged and is a natural part of the game loop, but also in general for those solo players — and this might be something that's difficult to notice in multiplayer — but the activeness and aggressiveness of enemies towards any one single player has been adjusted so that you don't find yourself in any unreasonable multi-foe fights."
Ishizaki added that since solo play would not have teammates to revive them, this makes the run more challenging. To alleviate this, they added a self-revive feature that players can discover around the map, for them to have more chances to continue their playthrough.
