Digimon Story: Time Stranger Was Announced at Sony's February 2025 PlayStation Showcase
Releases This 2025
At the latest PlayStation State of Play, Bandai Namco Entertainment officially announced Digimon Story: Time Stranger, the newest entry in the Digimon Story series. Set for a 2025 release, the game promises to captivate both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
Developed by Media.Vision Inc., Time Stranger marks the franchise’s return after a long hiatus since 2017’s Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory. Launching on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, the game introduces a fresh narrative that intertwines the real world with the Digital World.
The Digimon Story series has always been a bit different from the rest of the Digimon franchise. They’re known for digging into RPG mechanics even with its Digimon-raising aspect. It all started back in 2006 with Digimon Story on the Nintendo DS (known as Digimon World DS in other regions), and the series has spiraled from there. Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth (released in 2015) and its follow-up Hacker’s Memory (from 2017) were a hit with fans due to their well-written stories and turn-based gameplay. Now, with Time Stranger, Bandai Namco and Media.Vision are looking to push the series even further.
While a precise release date is yet to be confirmed, anticipation is building as more details are expected in the coming months. Stay updated with the latest info on Digimon Story: Time Stranger by checking out our article below!
Digimon Story: Time Stranger Overview
This time around, a looming catastrophe threatens both the human world and the Digital World. Players will traverse between parallel worlds—Earth and the Digital World of Iliad—and encounter characters whose choices shape the journey. These interactions will influence the flow of time and the fate of both realms.
On the gameplay front, Time Stranger will feature a turn-based battle system. Players can collect, train, and customize a wide variety of Digimon, with deeper customization options providing "limitless ways to approach the challenges of battle." Furthermore, according to the game’s Bandai Namco’s official press release, the strength of a player’s bond with their Digimon will play a part in this.
Beyond battles, the game will offer an intricately designed Digital world filled with both "interactive elements and special quests to explore." Bandai Namco promises an experience that showcases the Digital World in a way never seen before.
