Destiny 2 Ramps Up Towards The Edge of Fate Release
All Expansions and Episodes for Free During Limited Time Only
As developer Bungie celebrates "Bungie Day" on July 7, Destiny 2 offers all of its expansions and episodes for free during a limited time. In a Twitter (X) post on July 9, Destiny 2 announced that these will all be available for players across all platforms from July 8 to July 22, 2025.
The expansions included in this open access are Forsaken (2018), Shadowkeep (2019), Beyond Light (2020), The Witch Queen (2022), Lightfall (2023), and The Final Shape (2024). Meanwhile, episodes Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy will only be available until July 15.

These expansions and episodes are made free to give players a chance to delve deep and catch up on Destiny 2’s lore as the game enters a new saga for its upcoming expansion, The Edge of Fate, which releases on July 15.
Not only will this open access grant players the opportunity to look back and rediscover Destiny 2’s story, it will also provide them the chance to obtain limited items from those expansions. Every gear, currency, title, triumphs, and cosmetics players earn during this free access period will be permanently theirs, even if they do not purchase the expansion thereafter.
The Edge of Fate Developer Insights
As Destiny 2 approaches its upcoming The Edge of Fate expansion, Bungie unveiled a new video on July 9 where the developers shared their insights on players’ journey on Kepler. The Emissary of the Nine, Orin, takes center stage as she breaks free from the Nine and rejoins The Guardians.
The expansion will delve into the lore of the Nine and the internal conflict among them as they find a new replacement for the Emissary role. However, Orin leaving and quitting her position raises new questions and possibilities, igniting a whole new saga for Destiny 2.

The developers stated, "This release is about serendipity, that magical sense of finding desirable connections by chance. Except here, chance isn’t involved at all." They hint that something bigger and more powerful is working behind the scenes, and will greatly affect the narrative."Great stories aren’t built on the plot happening to characters. It’s built on characters making choices that change the world," they said.
As for the gameplay, the expansion will introduce World Tiers that give players the ability to stack challenges and earn better rewards. Each tier increases the difficulty of enemies, requiring more strategy for players to conquer. It also unlocks more mysteries and pursuits to chase on the new planet Kepler. The higher the tier, the rarer the rewards, giving players more incentive to take on this new world.

The Edge of Fate expansion kicks off Destiny 2’s Year of the Prophecy roadmap, which will also feature Renegades, a collaboration event with the legendary sci-fi franchise Star Wars, coming on December 2. With over 10 years of extensive content and constant updates, Bungie continues to expand upon the lore and mechanics of the beloved online multiplayer first-person shooter.
Destiny 2 is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Its upcoming expansion, The Edge of Fate, is set to go live on July 15. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
