Code Vein 2 has entered Advanced Access on Steam with a “Mixed” user rating, as early players raise concerns about performance issues and technical stability. Here’s what’s driving the early feedback.
Code Vein 2 Gets Mixed Steam Reviews
Players Cite Performance Issues

Code Vein 2 is facing early backlash during its Steam Advanced Access period, with players who purchased the Deluxe or Ultimate editions reporting performance problems ahead of the game’s January 30 release, contributing to its current "Mixed" Steam rating.
Player reviews on Steam point to performance as the most common source of frustration, with complaints ranging from frame rate drops, stuttering during combat, and noticeable slowdowns in larger environments. Several users say these issues persist even on higher-end hardware. One user review states that "the game simply does not run well," citing "tons of pop in, choppy cutscene transitions, [and] low framerate in several areas and situations."
These issues are also reflected in our Code Vein 2 review, which recounts "several hours of significant frame drops and stutters" during play and describes the experience as "a hellscape of unoptimized design." For more on our thoughts on Code Vein 2, check out our review below.

Several Steam reviews specifically refer to the game’s use of Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) as a contributing factor to its performance issues. Bandai Namco has not addressed the performance concerns publicly, but some players are already attributing the game’s technical problems to this choice.

Despite the criticism, Code Vein 2 has drawn a sizable audience during the Advanced Access period. As a major release for Bandai Namco, the game has reached an all-time peak of 9,211 concurrent players on Steam, according to SteamDB, and this is before the game’s general availability.
So far, Code Vein 2 has seen a more mixed response than the original Code Vein, which currently sits at a "Very Positive" rating on Steam.
That said, the game’s "Mixed" rating does not suggest purely negative responses. Some players report enjoying Code Vein 2’s combat flow, character builds, and overall structure, with a positive review stating, "[I] haven’t had one issue — PC temps are fine, [it] runs smoothly, and I’m enjoying the game."
We at Game8 even described the shift to open-world as "a structurally unique experience that neither the original nor any of the three God Eater games offered," which is a "strange but very welcome" change, one that "gives power back to the player." Despite the technical shortcomings, we note that it is still an enjoyable game.

The game has yet to reach a wider audience, as most players are still awaiting its January 30 release. It remains to be seen how quickly these issues will be addressed through updates, and how that will ultimately play a role in shaping Code Vein 2’s reception.
