Borderlands 4 Optimization Issues Continue
Gearbox CEO Tells PC Player to Get a Refund If They're Not Happy
Borderlands 4 continues to receive backlash from the community for its poor PC optimization, and Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford suggested to an unhappy player that they should get a refund on Steam instead. In a reply to a fan’s tweet on September 16, Pitchford stated that "the game is the game," and that they have given players enough options to optimize the game to their liking.
While the CEO has caught immediate backlash for his comments about the game running optimally on PC, his latest comments continue to incite negative reactions from the community. Pitchford urged players to use DLSS and frame generation, but most disagree that this is the solution to the game’s optimization problems.

Despite the current issues the game is facing and receiving "Mixed" reviews on Steam, Borderlands 4 continues to break its franchise records. As of writing, the game has reached over 300,000 concurrent players according to SteamDB.
Here at Game8, we gave Borderlands 4 an 82 out of 100 for building upon and fixing the imperfections of its predecessor. Unfortunately, its performance issues and bugs prevent it from reaching its full potential. To know more about our thoughts on Borderlands 4, check out our review below!
Performance Drops on PlayStation 5 Pro
Beyond its PC mishaps, players are also experiencing problems with the game on consoles. A fan raised their concern on Twitter (X) on September 17, noting that they are having performance issues on their PlayStation 5 Pro.
Pitchford responded and revealed that there is a known issue of performance dropping on PlayStation 5 Pro after several hours of continuous play. He suggested a temporary workaround until they patch it by quitting the game and restarting.
Fans who tried this solution claimed that it doesn’t work and that other players on PC are also experiencing this, theorizing that it may be due to a memory leak. Gearbox has yet to specify how many hours of playing before the performance drop occurs, and when fans can expect this concern to be resolved.
Pitchford Doing Customer Support

Amidst the community backlash, Pitchford dives headfirst into customer support, providing substantial help and solutions for different concerns. As part of his long thread of Twitter (X) posts and comments on September 15, Pitchford encouraged players to reach out to their Customer Service to help them fix their concerns.
He noted that he has personally helped players optimize their settings for the game and thanked fans for their passion in letting everyone know about their experiences with the game. However, despite Pitchford’s efforts, fans continue to voice out how poorly optimized the game is and question whether the pricing of the game matches its quality.
