Homeworld 3 Delayed Again to Deliver a 'Quality Experience'
Game to Launch in February 2024
RTS fans will have to wait almost another year, as the launch of Homeworld 3 has been delayed once again. The announcement was made on Friday via the official Homeworld Twitter.
In a statement, Blackbird Interactive (BBI) and Gearbox Publishing said that the game's launch has been moved from June 2023 to February 2024. The two companies explained that they wanted to "deliver a Homeworld experience that lives up to the standards set by its predecessors and is worthy of the series' incredible legacy."
They added that more time was needed to fully realize this vision through further refinement and polishing of the game.
"We deeply appreciate your passion and dedication to this game, and we are working hard to get Homeworld 3 to you as soon as we can," Blackbird and Gearbox said.
Netizens React Positively to HW3 Delay Announcement
Instead of admonishing HW3's developers, users on Twitter mostly reacted positively to news of a new launch delay. In the announcement's Twitter thread, many users said that the developers should take the time they need to polish the game further.
However, several users expressed impatience as well, stating that some games still ended up being buggy at launch despite being delayed.
Homeworld 3 was first announced back in 2019, and was originally set for a Q4 2022 release date. The launch was then later delayed to June 2023.
BBI Denies HW3 Launch Delayed Due to Four-Day Workweek, Tech Issues, Other Projects
BBI Promises to Show HW3 Progress Update in Summer 2023
Blackbird Interactive has further gone on to deny that the launch of HW3 was delayed due to various factors such as technical issues, a shift to a four-day workweek, and the diversion of resources to other projects.
In a post on Gearbox Software's website, BBI said no hurdles caused the game's delay. It also said that members of its development team achieved more in the game's development because of the company's shift to a four-day work week.
As to whether or not BBI diverted resources away from HW3 to other projects, the company said that its dev teams were always staffed independently "with very little crossover between teams."
As to whether or not expectant players would get more news on the development of HW3, BBI said it would share what it called its "biggest" Homeworld 3 progress update later this summer.
