CS2 Gameplay

Image

CS2 is the modern iteration of the classic first-person shooter, where 2 teams of 5 players engage in dozens of rounds of competing to accomplish their respective objectives. The Terrorists(or Ts) carry their ‘Bomb’ and plant them on 2 distinct ‘Sites’ across the map. The Counter Terrorists(or CTs) work to intercept the Ts by securing the bomb and its carrier, or by defusing the bomb if it gets planted. Whichever side accumulates enough round wins walks away with the match victory.

The title currently uses the MR12 model, meaning that the teams will switch places after 12 rounds for half-time (i.e. the Ts become CTs, and the CTs become Ts), totalling to a total of 24 rounds per game. The first team to reach a majority of round wins at 13 among the 24 wins the entire match.

Players can wield a variety of guns, from pistols, SMGs, shotguns, heavy machine guns, rifles, and sniper rifles. They can also purchase various utilities such as flashbangs that blind everyone on sight including teammates, molotovs and incendiaries that light a large area on fire, smoke grenades that cloud a large area with smoke, and frag grandes that explode after a set time.

However, access to these weapons isn't free. Throughout the whole match, players must carefully manage their ‘Team Economy’ in order to maintain enough funds and guns to have the best chance to compete against the enemy. Players who survive a round carry over any equipment they have on hand.

On the other side, those who got eliminated are required to reobtain weapons, grenades/utility, and armor either by purchasing them or receiving donations from team members. Players accumulate money from previous rounds’ kills, if they won or lost, and if they performed an objective i.e. defusing the bomb or planting the bomb.

CS2 Story Plot

Image

CS2 continues the eternal conflict between the Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists, where the Ts seek to blow up their targets for their cause, and CTs do everything they can to prevent them. Though there are no explicit plotlines for the game due to its competitive multiplayer nature, each map in CS2 is located in different countries and cities, where the Ts’ target sites each subtly show the purpose of why they seek to bomb them.

The most obvious one would be at Nuke, where the Ts work to blow up a Nuclear Power Plant either from its ground floor above that holds the reactors, or down below where all the chemical waste is located. The most iconic CS map, Dust 2, has the Ts seeking to blow up residential areas to cause casualties. In Overpass, the Ts seek to destroy the foundations of a train line either from underneath, or from a nearby station right beside a bank.
