Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond Gameplay
Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond is a competitive online collectible card game that builds upon the foundation of its predecessor, Shadowverse, by introducing new gameplay mechanics and features. Generally, two players duke it out using decks of cards. The core objective is to reduce your opponent’s Leader’s Defense Points to zero, similar to Magic: The Gathering (MTG). Players achieve this by playing cards, which include Followers (units), Spells (single-use effects), and Amulets (persistent effects). Each card has a Play Point cost, essentially like MTG’s mana system, and players gain more of it each turn to gradually increase their available resources.
Follower cards represent units that can attack the opponent’s Leader or opposing Followers. A key mechanic is the Evolution system. Players can evolve their Followers to boost their stats and sometimes grant them additional abilities.
In Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond, however, Followers can now be Super Evolved. While the original game allowed Followers to evolve starting from the second player’s fourth turn using Evolution Points (EP), Super Evolution is accessible from the second player’s sixth turn. Up to two remaining EPs are converted into Super Evolution Points (SEP). If a Super-Evolved follower that has both an Evolve Ability and a Super Evolve Ability, both are triggered upon Super Evolution.
Worlds Beyond also revises the Class system of the first game. The game now features eight classes: Forestcraft, Swordcraft, Runecraft, Dragoncraft, Abysscraft, Havencraft, Portalcraft, and Neutral. Abysscraft is a new class that combines elements from the previous Shadowcraft and Bloodcraft classes. Each of these classes have its own thematic and strategic identity that represents a distinct playstyle.
The game also added changes to the liquefaction system of the original game. Previously, players could freely liquefy any card to obtain vials, the in-game currency used to craft new cards. This led to players often focusing on a single class instead of building a variety of decks. In Worlds Beyond, liquefaction is now restricted to excess cards beyond the third copy.
To compensate for this, whoever, the game now implements several systems to increase the player’s way of obtaining cards. These include daily free card packs, launch missions granting up to ten packs, guaranteed Legendary cards every ten purchased packs, pre-built decks upon completing beginner missions, and rewards from the Shadowverse Park.
Beyond these, Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond features a 3D virtual space called Shadowverse Park, where players can interact using customizable avatars. This space supports real-time interactions, events, and mini-games such as mahjong and fishing. Players can also personalize their environments and invite friends to their virtual rooms.
