Ratatan, the spiritual successor of the classic rythm and strategy game Patapon, is coming soon. Read on to learn about its story, gameplay, and first impressions.
Everything We Know About Ratatan
Ratatan Story Plot
You play as a Ratatan, adorable groove-loving adventurers that use melodium, which is the power of rhythm and music, to command their armies of Cobuns. You’ll march across the world of Redo in a quest to get to the Everafter, a mythical place where a goddess resides. Throughout your journey, you’ll encounter evil pirates who threaten the peace around them. Strategically beat them using your music to command your army to victory.
Ratatan Gameplay
Ratatan is made by some of the lead people who worked on the game’s spiritual predecessor, Patapon. That being said, the game shares a ton of similarities with it, as it is modeled after the original strategy rhythm game concept. However, this isn’t just Patapon 4. From the gameplay footage revealed, Ratatan not only features a new and more vibrant art style, it also adds new rogue-lite mechanics.
You’ll be commanding your army by performing command songs, which will require you to push 7 buttons (instead of just 4 from the Patapon games), in a specific order following a specific rhythm. These commands are usually used to make your troops either march forward, defend, or attack. Mistakes will result in either performing the wrong move or not making a command at all. If you’re constantly hitting your notes and timings though, you’ll enter fever mode, and eventually super fever mode, both would increase your army’s capabilities.
You’ll also be able to play as different Ratatan and command different types of Cobun troops. Each one will have its own unique traits, specialties, and weaknesses.
