Ratatan Gameplay

Ratatan is a rhythm-based roguelike action game that, like its spiritual predecessor Patapon, integrates musical timing with its side-scrolling gameplay. As a Ratatan, players are equipped with magical instruments and can command armies of Cobuns—small creatures that execute various actions based on rhythmic inputs. The game boasts a roster of over 50 unique characters, each possessing special abilities.

The core gameplay revolves around a seven-button rhythm system, where each button corresponds to specific musical phrases. Players must press these buttons in sync with the game’s beat to issue commands such as advancing, attacking, or defending. Accurate timing is crucial, as precise inputs can trigger a "Fever Mode," during which the background music evolves, and the army’s capabilities are amplified.

Ratatan incorporates roguelike elements, including procedurally generated levels, spanning more than 10 diverse battlefield designs. Throughout their journey, players encounter random power-ups and over 100 unique rewards.

The single-player campaign is said to offer over 30 hours of content, with players tasked with guiding their Ratatan and Cobun army through various biomes and dynamic weather conditions to reach The Everafter. The game supports an online co-op mode, with four players synchronizing their rhythm-based commands.

Ratatan Story

Players step into the shoes of a Ratatan, creatures known for their affinity for rhythm and their ability to harness Melodium, a power derived from music. These beings make use of this to direct and command armies of Cobun. Their objective involves a journey across the world of Redo, with the ultimate goal of reaching The Everafter, a place believed to be the residence of The Goddess.

Their journey is not without peril, however. During this expedition, they will face hostile pirates who pose a threat to the region’s stability. Success in these encounters hinges on the Ratatans’ ability to use music to command their army to victory.
