Lies of P Overture DLC Updates
Open To Any Sort of Considerations
Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won felt refreshed after playing Elden Ring: Nightreign’s network test, and is open to new ideas for future projects. During the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Eurogamer spoke with Choi regarding the development of the Souls genre. He has stated in the past that he is a fan of FromSoftware games, which is evident in how Lies of P turned out.
Choi expressed his thoughts on the upcoming Elden Ring game and said, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. So that obviously gave me the impression that they're good developers, they always push their boundaries, their imagination and vision, and it shows. In turn, that for some reason motivated me to deliver the Overture experience as good as it could be."
With this, he stated that he is open to creating multiplayer games. Choi said, "In terms of our future endeavours, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future."
Despite being a fan of FromSoftware games, he adamantly said that he is not inspired by one specific game. Games Radar+ interviewed Choi during the 2025 GDC and explained, "I'm a fan of many, many types of games, and that variety of different experiences and inspirations that I pick up with many different games I love, I sort of mold it into my own Lies of P experience. In the end, it's a combination of diverse inspirations that I get from many games that I love, and then I'm trying to transform that into a Lies of P experience that I'm developing for the fans of Lies of P now."
Overture Takes 15-20 Hours for Experienced Players
Choi revealed that the Overture DLC may take 15-20 hours for experienced players, filled with tons of bosses and content that developers wished to include in the game’s launch. He elaborated, "Overture is not a complete separate piece from the base game, and there's a lot of interconnectivity between the two, so developing the expansion was almost like an effort to complete the Lies of P experience, and that was challenging."
Overture is a prequel to the base game, which transports players to Krat in its final days of haunting as they follow a legendary Stalker. It is a collection of new ideas, recommendations from player feedback, and unused concepts that weren’t able to be included in the game’s initial launch due to production and development constraints. Choi compared this release to a Director’s Cut, making it feel like the final third of the game.
He noted, "When we released the base game, we had to prioritize, as we mentioned, to do the best quality, so we couldn't deliver everything at once because we wanted to make sure what we can deliver has the best quality." Choi emphasized the community support they received after releasing the base game, which pushed the team to deliver everything they wanted in an expansion.
Overture is Not Connected to the Final Cutscene of the Base Game
In an interview with IGN during the 2025 Game Developers Conference, Choi revealed that the upcoming DLC is not connected to the final cutscene of the base game. For a spoiler-free explanation, the end of the game gave fans an insight into where developer NEOWIZ may take the Lies of P universe.
Choi previously confirmed in a Director’s Letter video in November 2023 that Lies of P would be getting a sequel, which may indicate that the said cutscene may be related. However, the developers have been tight-lipped regarding any information on Lies of P 2.
"What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you," Choi said.
He suggested that fans go through the base game, as it holds many hints that point to what the DLC may contain. Choi also mentioned that he has been reading through fan theories online and that some of them were quite close.
Lies of P: Overture is set to be released in Summer 2025 with no specific release date. The expansion will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
