Mecha BREAK Developers Considering Making All Mechs Free

Multiplayer mech game Mecha BREAK recently concluded its open beta test on Steam on March 16 and received valuable player feedback. The game has peaked at over 300,000 players during its open beta period, and now sits as the 5th most wishlisted game on Steam.

Chinese developer Amazing Seasun is considering making some changes, including the availability of Break Strikers (Mechs) and the usage of mech modules for 3v3 and 6v6 competitive modes. However, the company is not committing to anything right now and believes that the live service model is the right decision at launch and is essential for the game’s future.

At the start of the game, only one Break Striker was available for players, while others can be unlocked by earning in-game currency and purchasing them. However, it requires players to grind several multiplayer matches to earn enough, and it may take a while for them to get all 12 Break Strikers.

In an interview with PC Gamer on March 27, Amazing Seasun CEO Kris Kwok addressed this issue following community feedback. He stated, "We do know the biggest concern and then we think that the players are right. We are considering that we may [give] access to all Strikers to players."

Regardless of whether they make this adjustment, Kwok clarified that Break Strikers and other content released later would still need to be unlocked through grinding or purchasing. They also plan to release alternate versions of the mechs introduced in the beta, which will be available at the in-game store.

Mecha BREAK posted an FAQ blog on Steam on February 20, which stated that the open beta is a data-wipe test, which means nothing will be carried over once the game fully releases. Making all 12 Break Strikers available at the start would be a welcome addition so that beta test players won’t go through the trouble of re-unlocking these mechs.

Adjusting The Usability of Mech Modules

Another aspect of the game that received player feedback during its open beta was the usability of mech modules for its 3v3 and 6v6 competitive modes. Mech modules allow players to customize their Break Strikers’ stats by equipping gear, giving small buffs or nerfs that range from increased energy charge rate, lowered weapon reload times, and more. These affect the players’ playstyle significantly, and Amazing Seasun acknowledges this, which is why they are considering limiting those mech modules and will be exclusively used for their extraction mode, Mashmak.

Mecha BREAK held its first tournament in China on March 13 with teams from China, Japan, and North America competing in its 6v6 competitive mode. In that event, mech modules were disabled, as it could give more knowledgeable players and those with more time to grind an advantage in competitive matches. Mashmak does offer PVP matches, so these modules would still be effective when used in that mode.

Mecha BREAK is set to be released in 2025 with no confirmed release date. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
