Rallyallyally falls short of all expectations. Its unique and well-thought-of idea of the race leader determining where the track goes is poorly executed, leading to a subpar product. It can be fun with friends, but it can get old real quick. Moreover, it’s a total snooze-fest if you don’t have anyone to play with, as there aren’t any online game modes. Handling is bad and the only thing I found fun about the game is the power-ups.

Rallyallyally, a new indie racing game for PC and Switch, has just recently been released. Read our review to see what it did well, what it didn't do well, and if it's worth buying.

Rallyallyally Overall Score - 40/100

Rallyallyally falls short of all expectations. Its unique and well-thought-of idea of the race leader determining where the track goes is poorly executed, leading to a subpar product. It can be fun with friends, but it can get old real quick. Moreover, it’s a total snooze-fest if you don’t have anyone to play with, as there aren’t any online game modes. Handling is bad and the only thing I found fun about the game is the power-ups.

Rallyallyally Story - 4/10

Rallyallyally doesn’t have a story. While that’s totally fine for party games like this, the lack of things to do in this game is a glaring issue. An argument could be made for this game to have at least a simple single player game mode where you could earn certain cosmetics or upgrades so that the game isn’t reliant on local multiplayer and can be played alone.

Rallyallyally Gameplay - 5/10

The game is centered on automobile races where the car in first place decides where the racetrack goes by pushing a rolled up road to make the track. The concept is a great and unique idea on paper, but how the game executed it needs a lot more work. Handling isn’t the best, the camera can get wonky, it’s easy to get lost in the mayhem, and overall feels like a mobile game rather than a PC game. Moreover, there’s nothing to do as a solo player other than racing AI players, which is no fun at all.

Rallyallyally Visuals - 4/10

The game features vibrant colors and a simple art style. It looks alright, or fun even, but the visuals combined with graphic performance feel more like a mobile game than anything else. Usually indie games with simpler art-styles would make up for it by making it as smooth as possible, but this one doesn’t feel anywhere as smooth as the top indie games of recent years.

Rallyallyally Audio - 5/10

Like the rest of the game, there’s nothing special about the game’s audio. There’s a fun soundtrack reminiscent of game shows, but the sound effects are pretty mediocre.

Rallyallyally Value for Money - 2/10

This game looks, feels, and plays like a FREE mobile game. I don’t recommend this game, even for its $7.99 price tag.

Rallyallyally is pretty fun… for your first three games. It gets old extremely fast, which can be a good thing as you would probably stop playing before Steam’s 2-hour play time threshold for refunds. The idea of the game is centered on a big rolled up road with the race leader pushing it and dictating where the tracks go, contrary to the typical set racetrack in motorsports. It’s a smart and unique idea, really. However, Rallyallyally failed to bring the idea to life and make it fun. The racing mechanics are subpar at best, and the vehicle handling doesn’t feel nice at all.

The game’s only sliver of enjoyability lies in its local multiplayer. Chaotic couch party games are always fun with friends. That being said, there are far better options for when you’re gaming with your buddies. You’ll start off in a circle, each facing the center of the circle. There are three rounds per match, with your place determining which points you earn. Each round, the roll of road will appear in a random direction, and the rest is up to whoever’s pushing the roll. The round ends when the roll reaches one of the checkpoints in the map. The camera is focused on the roll, and you’ll just see an indicator of where you’re at when you’re far behind. When this occurs, a mini-timer will appear and when it ends you’ll be propelled forward with a rocket boost.

There are also Crash Bandicoot-style boxes that grant you random power-ups when you run through them. In my opinion, this is where the fun is. The power-ups involve a boxing glove that punches a narrow area in front of you, a pool of oil placed behind you to make opponents slip, or a grappling hook that quickly pulls you forward.

Unfortunately, there isn’t much else to the game. There’s no way to enjoy solo, as there aren’t any online game modes. You could race against up to seven AI players in a match, but it’s not fun at all and you don’t get anything out of it. There’s no progression whatsoever.

Even at only $7.99, I wouldn’t recommend this game. I’d much rather spend my $7.99 on a Big Mac.

Pros of Rallyallyally

Things Rallyallyally Got Right
Checkmark Local Multiplayer Mayhem

Local Multiplayer Mayhem

Image

Local multiplayer video games are almost always fun with good friends, and your squad could find some enjoyment in this one too. The fast-paced chaos can be fun for a while, although I could see everyone getting bored quickly after a couple of matches, given how there’s really nothing else to do in this game. It’s simple, which isn’t always a bad thing, but I’d rather play other budget-friendly or entirely free local multiplayer games like Brawlhalla.

Cons of Rallyallyally

Things That Rallyallyally Can Improve
Checkmark Not Something You’d Play Often
Checkmark Easy To Lose Track of What’s Going On

Not Something You’d Play Often

Image

As I’ve mentioned already, this game is fun only for a while. It gets repetitive very quickly and you can’t play online against other people. There’s nothing to grind for, no one to play with online, and once you’ve played a few games you’ve already seen it all. There aren’t any mechanics to master, and there’s no ranked modes, so there’s no point in investing time into the game.

Easy To Lose Track of What’s Going On

Image

The in-game camera is focused on the roll of road, so once you lag a bit behind, you’ll see an indicator of your general direction, but not much else. There’s also so many vibrant colors that it’s hard to keep track of the fast-paced action going on. It’s barely enjoyable as is, and this issue worsens the quality of your gaming experience.

Is Rallyallyally Worth It?

Not At All.

Image

There’s really not much to like about this game. It’s not a game you’d want to hate on, like The Day Before, but it’s pretty boring and I’d be disappointed if I bought this and didn’t get a refund. It’s still brand new, being released just today, so there’s hope that the developers figure out how to better apply their smart and unique concept of letting the race leader decide how the track goes.

Rallyallyally Overview & Premise

Image

Race against friends or AI players in a vibrant and fun environment. In Rallyallyally, there’s no set race track. Instead, the track is rolled up like a Cinnabon and whoever’s leading the race will decide where the road goes. Use power-ups like boxing gloves on springs or grappling hooks to maintain or acquire control.
