Ubisoft quietly released Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E, as reported by Eurogamer on December 20. This top-down multiplayer arcade shooter requires players to use cryptocurrency to play.

According to Eden Online’s website, this game "expands the universe of Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix," which was originally released as a series on Netflix. The game and show will feature popular Ubisoft IPs, like Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed.

Aside from its classic online competitive multiplayer setting, the game can only be accessed by 10,000 players. Each player must acquire a Citizen ID Card, which records everything "from your seasonal ranking placements to your unique achievements and accolades earned." These cards will also evolve according to players’ in-game performance.

To obtain a card, a player must have a crypto wallet and buy an NFT Niji Warrior ID card at Ubisoft’s special claim page at the cost of $25.63. ID owners will also have the ability to renounce their citizenship and sell their IDs to others, which might increase in value depending on their in-game performance.

According to Ubisoft's page at Magic Eden, an online marketplace for NFTs and other digital collectibles, the game’s full launch is set for Q1 2025. However, those who obtained IDs early on will have early access to the game.

A Netflix Series Inspired By Far Cry 3’s DLC

Image

The Netflix series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix is an animated spinoff of Far Cry 3’s standalone expansion, the Blood Dragon. The series is set in an alternate reality of 1992, where the United States has become Eden, a technocracy controlled by a single megacorporation.

In this show, the audience follows the story of Dolph Laserhawk, a supersoldier created by Eden Tech Military. After his defection, he conducted heists with Alex Taylor, his boyfriend, who ultimately betrayed him. Captured once again by Eden, he was forced to become a member of The Ghosts and was tasked to undermine Taylor’s plans.

Though Ubisoft did not provide details about the game’s story, it is set in the same universe, where players must be role citizens under Eden’s leadership. In addition, players can influence the narrative of the game by raising their citizen scores via completing missions, updating the leaderboard, and through community involvement.
