Pragmata Gameplay

Blends Hacking and Shooting

Pragmata is a third-person action game in which the player directly controls Hugh, the game’s protagonist, who uses conventional firearms and short-range propulsion to move and evade. At the same time, Diana, his android companion, performs hacks on opponents. Enemies have armor that resists direct fire until Diana completes a vulnerability sequence; only then are conventional weapons able to inflict damage. The player has access to multiple weapon types seen in demos (e.g., a pistol, a shockwave gun, a trap gun), as well as a boost/jump/dodge used both for positioning and to avoid incoming attacks during hacking sequences.

When engaging an enemy, Diana projects a node grid, and the player (via the companion’s cursor) must trace paths or select nodes to reach target tiles, avoid obstacles, and optionally activate bonus nodes that modify the encounter. Those hacking puzzles run while the player’s character remains vulnerable and mobile. Different enemy types and encounters use variations on the grid and node rules.

Exploring Areas with Thrusters or Hacking

Exploration in Pragmata takes place within a lunar research station. Players explore these areas using Hugh’s jet boots to go about hallways and open spaces quickly. Diana’s Hacking is instrumental here, as she can give Hugh access to previously unreachable areas or activate necessary systems to progress.

Pragmata Story Plot

Pragmata Story

Pragmata Hugh and Diana sitting on the floor next to each other

A lone astronaut, Hugh Williams, is stranded on the desolate lunar surface after a moonquake separates him from his. He soon encounters a Pragmata named Diana, an android girl with the unusual ability to manifest digital projections and hack her way into the lunar base’s hallways. Yet, the lunar research station they hoped would offer sanctuary proves to be hostile, as they are immediately caught in an unforeseen conflict with a rogue AI, which has seized control of the station’s remnants.

To survive and find a way back to Earth, Hugh and Diana must brave the moon and the lunar station and battle robotic enemies that are seemingly influenced by the rogue AI.

Pragmata Setting

Pragmata world view that resembles an AI-generated city

Pragmata's events unfold in an AI-controlled lunar research station, a high-tech outpost on the Moon. There will also be fake city environments generated by AI. As revealed in a recent press event, the "New York-like" locations in the game were intended to look recognizable but slightly distorted, mirroring reality that simultaneously feels out of place.

Other cities will be included in Pragmata, but they will not be fully urbanized stages. Moreover, the New York-inspired environment will integrate a "mix of various cultures, like Madrid or Seoul."

Pragmata Characters

Hugh Williams

Hugh Williams is the designated system auditor for the dispatch team deployed to the lunar research station after communication was lost. As one of the playable characters in Pragmata, he carries out the game's gunplay through his arsenal of shooting weapons. His jet boots allow him to hover, perform quick dashes, and move faster.

Diana

Also known as the android D-I-0336-7, Diana is a curious child who, with little sense of danger, greets the world with innocent wonder and absent-minded trust. She aids Hugh by hacking security systems and scanning environments to reveal the path forward.

She also has two hacking nodes. Decode temporarily disrupts enemy systems, increasing damage. Meanwhile, Multihack links enemies to disable their armor and expose weak spots longer.
