Image

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 (or simply Directive 8020) is an upcoming interactive drama and survival horror game developed and published by Supermassive Games. It is the first game of the second season, and the fifth game overall in The Dark Pictures Anthology. The game will be released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 2, 2025.

The game is set in a distant future where humanity embarks on an interstellar colonization mission. Players follow a crew aboard the Cassiopeia, a spacecraft sent to establish a settlement on the planet Tau Ceti f. Upon arrival, the mission takes a dire turn as the crew faces unexpected threats, including internal conflicts and an unknown extraterrestrial presence. Players must then navigate the deteriorating situation and make choices that determine the fate of the crew and influence the horrors that unfold..

As with previous entries in The Dark Pictures Anthology, Directive 8020’s gameplay revolves around choices, where player decisions shape character relationships and outcomes. The game is also expected to feature an online co-op mode that builds on the Movie Night mode of previous entries, enabling five players to experience the narrative together remotely.

Directive 8020 Gameplay

Image

"Directive 8020 unfolds from a third-person perspective, where players experience the story through the eyes of different surviving crew members of the colony ship Cassiopeia. A core element of the gameplay lies in navigating narrative choices and successfully executing quick-time events, as these player-driven decisions have a tangible impact on the unfolding plot and the dynamics between characters.

Notably, the game introduces stealth mechanics and a variety of tools, such as a scanner to detect alien imposters and a remote device capable of manipulating electronics for diversions.
