Once Upon a KATAMARI Gameplay

Once Upon a KATAMARI maintains the classic gameplay loop of rolling a Katamari to collect various items, starting from small objects like thumbtacks and gradually increasing in size to encompass cars, buildings, and eventually entire landmasses. Each level is set within a specific time limit, and the primary objective is to reach a target Katamari size.
The main challenge is navigating diverse historical eras, each presenting unique obstacles and layouts that require strategic rolling. Players might have to maneuver a small Katamari through a cluttered prehistoric jungle or grow a massive one to roll up giant icebergs in an arctic landscape.
New tools such as the magnet, adds a strategic layer to the gameplay, allowing players to pull in distant items to help them reach their size goals more efficiently. Additionally, the new "KatamariBall" multiplayer mode pits players against each other in a frantic race to roll up a designated number of special items, adding a competitive element to the traditional Katamari experience.
Once Upon a KATAMARI Story Plot

Following yet another cosmic mishap, the flamboyant and perpetually clumsy King of All Cosmos has accidentally destroyed the Earth and scattered all the stars across the universe. To rectify his colossal blunder, he once again sends his son, the Prince, on a grand mission.
The Prince must travel back in time to various historical eras, such as the prehistoric Jurassic Period and the frigid Ice Age. His task is to roll his magical Katamari through these distinct worlds, collecting everything in his path to grow it into a new celestial body. By gathering enough items from each era, the Prince hopes to restore the twinkling stars to the sky and ultimately bring back the beloved planet Earth.
