Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered Gameplay
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered, like in the original, follows the perspectives of both Kain and Raziel, the protagonists of the Blood Omen and Soul Reaver series, respectively. Players will switch between the two characters, progressing through levels and engaging enemies in combat.
Remastered Features
The remaster boasts new HD graphics, a third-person camera, and wayfinding maps. Characters received updated new 3D models, improved textures, higher resolution, and lighting.
Bonus features like brand new character skins, lost levels, concept art, lore, and photo mode are also included in the game. Notably, a demo of Dark Prophecy, a sequel to Defiance, is included in the Deluxe Edition of the Digital Deluxe edition.
Restored Levels
Dozens of lost unfinished levels have been restored, including early prototypes, test spaces, and partially built environments that were cut from the original game’s development. For preservation purposes, Defiance Remastered kept these levels mostly intact in their rough, unfinished state, with a few lighting adjustments to make sure that they are navigable in gameplay.
Dark Prophecy Demo
Included in the Deluxe Edition of the game is a demo of Defiance’s cancelled sequel, Dark Prophecy, which was being developed at the now-defunct Ritual Entertainment back in 2004. The developers stated that the story content of this follow-up had not been restored, but it does provide insight into "the tone, direction, and ideas the original team explored".
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered Story Plot
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered follows the same story beats as the original 2003 title. It picks up after the 2001 game, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2. Like every entry in the Legacy of Kain series, it is set in the dying land of Nosgoth. It follows both the tale of the Vampire lord, Kain, and his betrayed lieutenant, Raziel, after the former saved the latter and they were separated by a time paradox.
