Kora Joins the Journey to Uncover Amara’s Past
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection introduced a new character, Kora, in a video posted on the game’s official YouTube channel on March 7. The trailer highlights the experienced Ranger who joins the protagonist’s journey to uncover the truth behind Lady Amara’s disappearance.
In Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, players take on the role of the prince or princess of Azuria and captain of the Rangers, an organization tasked with protecting monster ecosystems and maintaining balance in the natural world. While investigating the Crystal Encroachment, a mysterious phenomenon affecting monsters and the environment, they encounter Kora, one of the Rangers’ founding members.
An experienced Ranger known for her work in geological surveys, Kora is skilled in the use of bombs and gunpowder and wields a Brachydios Gunlance in battle. She fights alongside her Monstie—monsters that Riders raise, bond with, and battle beside—named Gravy, a Gravios known for its heat-resistant armored shell and ability to briefly submerge in lava. Despite her thoughtful and caring demeanor, she is far from passive in battle, with the character introduction highlighting her "explosive combat prowess."
Kora’s motivation is also personal. Still unsure why Lady Amara abandoned Azuria ten years earlier, she joins the protagonist’s journey to uncover the truth behind the queen’s disappearance. Amara, the protagonist’s mother and former ruler of Azuria, left the kingdom after opposing the execution of one of two Rathalos twins believed to be cursed.
New Faces in Azuria
Kora is just one of several companions introduced through a series of character videos ahead of the game’s release this Friday. Other members of the Rangers revealed so far include Ogden, a monster expert often described as a “walking Monsterpedia,” Thea, a young Ranger recruit with a natural affinity for animals who travels with her Poogie companion Pookie, and Gaul, the Rangers’ vice-captain who supports the group with his knowledge of botany and item combinations.
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection takes place around two centuries after the events of previous Stories titles, while introducing a largely new cast of characters. The story centers on the mystery of the Crystal Encroachment, with rising tensions between the kingdoms of Azuria and its rival nation, Vermeil, setting the stage for the Rider and their companions to uncover the truth behind the growing crisis.
