Enter the Gungeon 2
Release Date Gameplay & Story Pre-Order & DLC Review

Enter the Gungeon 2 tasks players with battling through shifting levels to rescue marooned heroes and uncover new secrets. Read on to learn how it plays, what it’s about, and everything else we know so far.

Enter the Gungeon 2 Gameplay

Image

Enter the Gungeon 2 expands the original’s genre blend of twin-stick shooting and roguelike dungeon crawling into a fully three-dimensional space. Players explore procedurally generated floors of the Gungeon, a labyrinthine structure filled with enemies, traps, loot, and secrets. Combat is fast-paced, with an emphasis on projectile dodging and aggressive play. As in the original, each run consists of collecting randomized weapons, items, and upgrades that stack in often unpredictable or synergistic ways. The transition to 3D introduces additional verticality and physics-based interactions, such as launching enemies into pits or knocking them into hazards.

Weapon variety remains central to the gameplay loop. The Gungeon continues to house a large collection of bizarre, themed, and often comedic firearms—though the exact number of returning or new weapons has not yet been confirmed. Player characters—Gungeoneers—can now include both legacy characters and newly introduced ones, each potentially offering different starting gear, passive abilities, or narrative arcs.

Narrative details for Enter the Gungeon 2 remain limited as of its announcement, but the game is confirmed to continue within the universe established in Enter the Gungeon and Exit the Gungeon. Players will once again find themselves exploring the ruined and now more treacherous halls of the Gungeon, with the implication that a new crisis—or renewed cycle—has triggered another descent into its depths.

No specific characters, factions, or bosses have been named in the sequel’s promotional materials. As in the original, lore is likely to be delivered through item descriptions, dialogue fragments, and unlockable entries rather than a linear narrative.
