Summer Game Fest 2025 saw the announcement of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds’ release date: September 25, 2025. The game is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
On consoles, according to the PlayStation Store, the game was released at 12:00 A.M. ET. However, the PC release on Steam followed a different schedule; it became available at 9:00 A.M. PT / 12:00 P.M. ET.

A Closed Network Test (CNT) for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds happened in February 21, 2025 at 4:00 P.M. PDT until February 23, 2025 at 4:00 P.M. PDT. Interested players were able to enter by signing up for email updates about Sonic games on the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds official website. This CNT was exclusively for PlayStation 5; other platforms were not supported.
The sign-up period ran from February 12, 2025 to February 19, 2025. The purpose of the CNT was to evaluate the online play experience and identify potential issues before the game’s official release. Those selected for the CNT were notified via email on February 20, 2025 and will receive special in-game bonuses on the day of the full release.

Sonic Racing: Crossworlds was released on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2025. Like most Switch 2 editions, it features upgraded graphics and performance compared to the Switch 1 version, and an upcoming physical version will release sometime in 2026.
September 25, 2025 | Sonic Racing: Crossworlds Releases on Consoles
Sonic Racing: Crossworlds was released on September 25, 2025 for all consoles, with a 3-day Advanced Access period for players who purchased the game's Digital Deluxe Edition.
September 25, 2025 | Sonic x Mega Man
Sonic Racing: Crossworlds has received a new trailer revealing a crossover with the Mega Man franchise. Mega Man and Protoman are joining the roster as playable characters, with a Dr. Wily's Castle track and a Rush-inspired kart also being available.

Sonic Racing: Crossworlds had its first Open Network Test from August 29 to September 1, 2025. The Open Network Test featured 12 playable characters, 16 different race courses (9 main, 7 CrossWorlds) and 42 gadgets.
August 20, 2025 | Sonic x Pac-Man
Sonic Racing: Crossworlds received a trailer detailing a collaboration with the Pac-Man franchise, bringing over Pac-Man as a playable character with a stage inspired by his games. The Pac-Man DLC pack was eventually released on January 7, 2026
June 22, 2025 | The Kids' Choice Awards
A trailer for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds revealed a collaboration with Spongebob Squarepants as upcoming DLC, with the characters Spongebob and Patrick shown driving along a Bikini Bottom-inspired track with the Sonic cast. The Spongebob Squarepants DLC pack was eventually released on November 19, 2025.
June 6, 2025 | Summer Game Fest
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds received a September 25, 2025 release date during Summer Games Fest. Later that day, SEGA also announced that the game will be coming to Switch 2 at a later date.
