Getting Announced This February 27, 2024 on Pokemon Day
The Pokemon Twitter(X) account has just announced that the annual Pokemon Day will be proceeding as planned on February 29, 2024. Tons of Pokemon news often get announced on Pokemon Day, the anniversary of the original Pokemon Red and Green releases. The occasion will be perfect for the announcement of the hugely anticipated Pokemon Black and White (BW) and Black 2 White 2 (BW2) Remakes that fans have been expecting, as BW and BW2 are the remaining titles from the Nintendo DS era yet to be remade and released for modern consoles. Though, the question still hangs whether or not both titles will be lumped together to have definitive versions of Gen 5, or will stay separated as BW and BW2.
A lot of signs also hint to the BW remakes being announced soon. Earlier this month, the Pokemon Twitter(X) account posted two GIFs of Zekrom and Reshiram, captioned with singular black and white hearts respectively. Another fact is, when looking at the past, the previous DS remakes, Pokemon Brilliant Pearl and Shining Diamond(BDSP), were also announced on Pokemon Day back in 2021. If the BW remakes are to be announced, it will have to be this coming February 27, 2024.
Potentially Releasing This November 2024
If we’re to look at history once again, the most likely release timeframe of the BW remakes would be this coming November 2024. BDSP were announced on Pokemon Day on February 27, 2021, and were released the following November 19 of that same year. It has been three whole years since then, and so such a timeframe won’t be so unrealistic.
What Will They be Called?

Andrea Trama from Gamerant published a well-informed article as to what potential names the Pokemon BW remakes might get. In her article, she enumerates the following four possible names:
● Yin Black and Yang White
● Deep Black and Vast White
● Dusk Black and Dawn White
● Coal Black and Ashen White
For Yin Black and Yang White, she reasons that these could be possible as it strongly related to the central themes of good and evil in the games. Pokemon BW arguably had the best narrative in Pokemon games, with the most important character of N, so having the title be a symbol of good and evil would be apt.
With Deep Black and Vast White, they are the categorical titles of the Legendary Pokemon from the covers, Zekrom and Reshiram. The games have been synonymous with the two Legendary Pokemon, and titling the remakes after them will be appropriate.
In the case of Dusk Black and Dawn White however, it’s a shot in the dark as "Dusk and Dawn" are mere trademarks that Game Freak had trademarked years ago but have yet to be utilized in any Pokemon Game. They don’t fit into the context of the game as much though, and so this should be taken with a grain of salt.
Lastly, to go with the theme of the previous remakes in Pokemon BDSP, the BW remakes could merely be adjectives for Black and White, such as Coal Black and Ashen White. These, however, don’t have much meaning connecting to the game, and as such should be on the lower end of the possible names.
