Woochi the Wayfarer’s First Trailer Reveals Korean Dark Fantasy Setting
Nexon Games Explores Korean Folktale in Upcoming Action Adventure
Woochi the Wayfarer’s first teaser trailer just dropped alongside Nexon Games’ official announcement, and it has already started stirring excitement and drawing lofty comparisons with its eye-popping visuals and dark fantasy setting.
The trailer features a mysterious shaman, named Myoan, performing a dark ritual at a decrepit temple before being interrupted by the titular Woochi. Things then quickly escalate as flames envelop the temple, Myoan undergoes a spine-tingling transformation, and the two become locked in combat before the shaman presumably gets the better of our hero.

The upcoming action adventure is set in Joseon-era Korea and is based on "The Tale of Jeon Woochi," a fictionalized folktale centered on the real-life historical figure Jeon Woo-chi. In the lore, Jeon Woochi is known for being a great sorcerer and trickster who uses his powers to fight evil and stand up for the downtrodden.
Nexon Games and LoreVault are the studios behind Woochi the Wayfarer. Nexon Games is best known for its hit 2D MMORPG Maple Story, live-service shooter The Finals, and the well-received 2025 action RPG The First Berserker: Khazan. While little is known about LoreVault, Nexon’s press release confirmed that they will be leading development on Woochi the Wayfarer.
"LoreVault, the developer of Woochi the Wayfarer, is collaborating with experts in various fields such as Korean literature and traditional music to effectively represent Korea’s unique history and culture within the game," the press release read. "They are also conducting location hunting, personally visiting cultural sites across Korea to recreate the Joseon era in high-quality 3D."
Woochi the Wayfarer Already Drawing Comparisons

The game’s announcement is barely a day old, but folks on Reddit have already started comparing Woochi to several other games, namely Black Myth: Wukong, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Another notable comparison gamers are making is to the widely acclaimed Witcher franchise, which would hint that standards are already sky-high.
With not much beyond a two-minute teaser to glean information from, the comparisons are to be expected as Woochi the Wayfarer is just the latest game to come in a surge of action adventure games based on East Asian lore and mythology.

If there’s one solid takeaway from fan discussions on the trailer, it’s that players are hoping that Woochi doesn’t end up being another soulslike. Once a beloved niche genre, soulslikes have undoubtedly taken over gaming.
Now, souls-fatigue is setting in as gamers have already seen 5 to 10—depending on who you ask—soulslikes release this year with more to come. Apart from arguments over what constitutes a soulslike, discussion boards about Woochi the Wayfarer’s teaser are filled with messages like "Let me guess, it’s another soulslike," and "Please don't be another soulslike."

Whether or not Woochi the Wayfarer follows the FromSoftware formula, it will be interesting to see what a game company like Nexon Games does with the game’s unexplored setting and vastly rich lore.
Woochi the Wayfarer is set to release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. No window for release has been announced.
