Civilization 7 Brings Out Patch 1.1.1
UI Improvements, Gameplay Tweaks, and More
Sid Meier's Civilization VII (also known simply as Civilization 7 or Civ 7) released its newest update, Patch 1.1.1, which introduces a lot of improvements and fixes for the game, both for free and paid content.
Highlights of the patch include UI enhancements such as improved unit flag and health bar visibility, improved plot tooltips, and age progress wheels will now show "pips" that will notify the player when a Crisis will trigger. Players can now also make the gameplay a little faster with the Quick Move function that disables movement animations for units, as well as rename their Settlement and Commanders to their liking. Additionally, re-rollers can rejoice that the option to restart the game within the first few turns is now available in the settings. Lastly, Mount Everest makes its debut as a Natural Wonder in Civ 7, which will provide a range of bonuses such as +2 Happiness, Influence, and Culture to lucky players who manage to settle nearby.
For paid content, Update 1.1.1 also completes the content additions for the Crossroads of the World Collection DLC, adding two new leaders, four new civs, and four new Natural Wonders.
Many of these updates were directly influenced by community feedback, and developer Firaxis Games encourages the player base to continue sending in their thoughts and comments through the Steam discussion forums or the official Civilization Discord server. The developers are hard at work with the upcoming major update 1.2.0 that is slated for release in April, but is still subject to change.

Civilization 7 Stands In Its Predecessors’ Shadows
As the latest installment in a well-loved franchise, Civ 7 was highly anticipated by many. However, it opened to lukewarm reviews upon launch from both critics and players, and while it has improved over time following the game’s first major update, its rating remains in the neutral zone with a "Mixed" rating among 28,843 reviews.
Civ 7's player counts across the board have also paled in comparison to its recent predecessors, namely Civ 6 and even Civ 5, which came out in 2016 and 2010 respectively. As shown in the image above from SteamDB at the time of writing, Civ 6 has about 25k concurrent players, followed by Civ 5's 9.6k. Civ 7's 9.5k concurrent player count lags just a little behind the fifth game, and is completely overtaken by the sixth. The three games' 24-hour peaks and all-time peaks also show large gaps in numbers, especially with Civ 6 leading by a landslide, reaching a 162,657 all-time player peak compared to Civ 7's 84,558. Additionally, while Civilization fans have their own favorite entry, 5 and 6 are touted as two of the best in the entire franchise. Civ 7 has immensely big shoes to fill, and developer Firaxis seems to be determined to keep improving upon the game.
Game8’s resident reviewer seems to agree that while it fell flat under the weight of its hype and expectations, Civ 7 is still a solid game for 4X enthusiasts to try. Read more in the review down below!
