Helldivers 2’s Latest Update Brings Back the Cyborgs in New Automaton Threat
Helldivers’ Old Foes Return
The Cyborgs are gradually moving toward their big reveal in Helldivers 2, following a series of updates from Arrowhead on its social media channels. After the release of the Siege Breakers Warbond and a brief Cyborg teaser, Arrowhead has ramped up the marketing campaign for its war against the Automatons, even making it appear as if they are hijacking the studio’s social media team with cryptic messages.
Just last week, Helldivers 2’s social media channels were completely "hijacked" by the Automatons, who urged players not to enlist with Super Earth and to save the robot's home planet of Cyberstan. The cryptic messages were posted in binary, prompting players to complete a brief ARG (Alternate Reality Game) to uncover their true intentions.
The Cyborgs were the first enemies Helldivers faced in the original game. Once human defectors from Super Earth, they escaped after enduring immoral experiments, and now obsessively modify their bodies with twisted metal and wires, resulting in their fearsome, metallic armies. Their stronghold lies on the planet Cyberstan, where Helldivers must infiltrate their base and thwart whatever sinister plans they are plotting.
The Cyborgs Have Already Hijacked Helldivers 2’s Missions

Following the series of social media updates, the Cyborgs have already invaded the game by messing up players’ Major Orders instructions, telling the Helldivers to "Defect from the Government that has lied to [You], Helldivers," and urging them to destroy Super Earth’s One True Flag, a symbol of the Helldivers’ managed democracy.
Some players posted on Reddit after reportedly noticing changes in their Super Destroyer, with its default lighting being replaced with red. Another unexpected change was a new terminal puzzle showing the same cryptic Automaton symbols instead of the usual arrow symbols players were familiar with.
Currently, the Automatons continue to toy with the Helldivers, introducing new in-game surprises such as dwindling reinforcement reserves to confuse players as well as hijacking the game’s major news feeds.
There is still no release date for the big March to Cyberstan update, but with Arrowhead’s ongoing updates and Arrowhead's in-game role-play as Automatons, the Cyborgs’ return seems imminent just in time for its second anniversary.
