Tekken 8 has taken the world by storm, leading to the game’s amazing sales numbers. Read on to learn more details about Tekken 8’s numbers, how it compares to the other fighting games and more.
Tekken 8 Reaches 2 Million Copies Sold Worldwide
Selling Like Hotcakes
Since its launch, Tekken 8 has been one of the better fighting games to be released in recent memory. With its surprisingly good story, amazing gameplay, new mechanics, stunning graphics, and more. This is why it is no surprise that the game has sold extremely well, successfully clearing the 2 million mark on copies sold in less than three weeks.
Bandai Namco has already gone out and said that sales are "better than expected" and that the game is on track to outsell the previous game in less than half of the previous game’s lifespan. To put this in perspective, Tekken 7 took 2 months to sell 2 million units and was announced in December 2022, that it had sold over 10 million copies throughout its run.
Tekken 8 has already reached a fifth of that total number in less than a month, so it may not be a long shot to hit more than 10 million within a year or two.
Golden Era of Fighting Games?
So as briefly mentioned, Tekken 8 has already had a stellar month, but how does it compare to the other fighting games on the market? In comparison, Benji Sales posted the numbers on Twitter (X) between the fighting game genre’s "big 3" with Street Fighter reaching 3 million in 7 months, Mortal Kombat having more than 3 million by January 2024, and finally Tekken 8 reaching 2 million in less than a month.
By this trend, it seems that Tekken 8 is going to eclipse the other games in sales. However, the key thing here to note is that fighting games are actually selling pretty well. We could very well be entering into the new "golden era" of fighting games.
