ConcernedApe Reveals "Secret" at Concert
Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone, better known as ConcernedApe, just revealed that a 1.7 update is on its way. The announcement was first made at a Stardew Valley: Symphony of Seasons concert and was later confirmed on Twitter (X) by Barone. The developer has yet to reveal any details about the upcoming update.
"After [1.6], I was saying, ‘I don’t think we’re going to make another update,’" Barone said at the concert. "But I wanted to share something with you tonight. It’s kind of a secret. There’s going to be another update."

Since its release in 2016, the hit farming sim has received numerous free updates and expansions, all the while being developed solely by Barone. His commitment to the passion project has proven incredibly fruitful, as Stardew Valley has only grown more popular in its almost 10 years of existence. In fact, last year’s low point of almost 89k concurrent Steam players nearly matches its pre-2024 peak of 94,897.
Haunted Chocolatier Proceeding as Planned

The reveal was met with rousing cheers as the game’s 1.6 update back in early 2024 was meant to be its final, at least until ConcernedApe’s next game sees the light of day. "[Stardew Valley] pulls me away from devoting all my time to Haunted Chocolatier… I'm committed to not working on Stardew Valley until I'm done with Haunted Chocolatier," Barone told PC Gamer back in April.
First announced back in 2021, Haunted Chocolatier promises to be even bigger than Stardew Valley, so fans were quick to express concern for the massive development just as they were to celebrate the news. Thankfully, Barone was able to swiftly quell fans’ concerns, tweeting that the Stardew update will not interfere with the upcoming game’s development.
