Naughty Dog Studio Head and Head of Creative Neil Druckmann recently posted on Twitter (X) stating that his recent interview posted on Sony's official website was edited down and "is not quite" what he said. Druckmann was recently targeted in the media for a quote where he stated that his next project would "redefine the mainstream perceptions of gaming."
This caused dissent on social platforms, with users such as @YellowFlashGuy on Twitter (X) stating "Neil Druckmann sucks."
Druckmann followed up his post with a reply stating, "In editing my rambling answers in my recent interview with SONY, some of my words, context, and intent were unfortunately lost. Well, here's the full, long rambling answer for the final question about our future game..."
He attached a full transcript of the interview, which revealed he never stated that their next project could "redefine mainstream perceptions of gaming."
The closest he came to expressing those sentiments was when he mentioned the success of the HBO adaptation of The Last of Us and the Fallout Amazon show.
He stated, "I think right now we've hit a tipping point where it's about to take off, where people realize, 'Oh my god, there are all these incredible, moving experiences in games!' So, I'm not only excited for this new game that we're making — and it's something really fresh for us — but I'm also excited to see how the world reacts to it."
He continued by noting that the show attracted attention even from outside the gaming community, with people eager to see what Naughty Dog would release next. He concluded by expressing his excitement to see the reaction to their new project.
