Lenovo Legion Go S Powered by Valve’s SteamOS
At the same event, Lenovo showcased its next-gen devices, including a SteamOS-powered Lenovo Legion Go S. According to Lenovo’s press release on January 7, 2025, this device is the "world’s first officially licensed handheld powered by SteamOS," Valve’s operating system for the Steam Deck.
The new Lenovo Legion Go S features an "8-inch screen with VRR1 support, a chassis sporting fused TrueStrike controllers with adjustable trigger switches and hall-effect joysticks." It also includes features like cloud saves to ensure a smooth transition between PC and handheld gaming and remote Play that streams games from PC to this device.
Using this operating system, users will have "access to the full Steam ecosystem - your Steam Library, Steam Cloud, Steam Chat, Steam Game Recording, and more." Additionally, owners of this device can also seamlessly manage all game, driver, and hardware updates via SteamOS’ built-in system updates.
It will be available in May 2025 and priced at $499.99 USD. A Windows-based version of Lenovo Legion Go S will launch earlier in January 2025 and start at $729.99 USD.
In a separate news report, Valve also announced that they are working on powering other handheld devices with SteamOS. "We will be shipping a beta of SteamOS, which should improve the experience on other handhelds, and users can download and test this themselves."
As the first of its kind, Lenovo Legion Go S will showcase the impact of SteamOS on various handheld devices in the future, potentially making Steam and its large gaming library accessible to more players.
Other Devices Announced at CES 2025
These are far from the only two to be announced, with other major electronic companies revealing their upcoming products. For instance, Nvidia announced the new RTX 50-series graphics card. Meanwhile, Acer unveiled its new environmentally friendly laptop, the Aspire Vero 16, which is partially made of oyster shells and recycled plastic.
Among the many innovations, handheld devices gained significant attention after the success of the Switch, whose successor is allegedly making its rounds at CES 2025 as well. However, Nintendo has yet to announce the big reveal for Switch 2, making the veracity of the reports rather somewhat questionable.
