An Eventful Coincidence

Metal Gear voice actor David Hayter of Solid Snake and Big Boss posted a New Year's greeting on his Bluesky account to remind fans that 2025 is the Year of the Snake. With a new entry coming real soon, 2025 might just be the character’s year too. With that said, Hayter is set to reprise his role as Solid Snake in the upcoming remake title, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

It’s a great coincidence that 2025 is the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac, and is also the targeted release year for the newest installment. In fact, Konami gave a shout out to this coincidence with a video on their official YouTube channel titled New Year’s Greetings, where three Taiko drummers mightily performed alongside a calligraphy artist who was artistically writing the kanji for the word snake. The video then concluded with Snake Year in all caps, signifying that it’s not only the year of the Chinese zodiac’s Snake, but also for Solid Snake.

Outside of its announcement back in May of 2024 followed by a trailer and a demo in the Tokyo Game Show, there hasn’t been any new announcements or teasers regarding the title until now. However, Metal Gear Solid Delta producer Noriaki Okamura stated in a brief interview with the Japanese game information website 4Gamer that one of their goals for 2025 and also one of their biggest challenges is to make the game highly polished and of good quality.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set to launch sometime in 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It is the remake of 2004’s Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which will include new generation improvements and changes, such as the return of Phantom Pain mechanics, as well as new voice-overs and additional lines from the original voice cast themselves.
