Persona 4 Revival Development and 30th Anniversary Plans
Persona 4 Revival is "Shaping Up Nicely"

Persona 4 Revival’s (P4R) development is "shaping up nicely," according to its developers. In an interview with 4Gamer during Tokyo Game Show 2025, P-Studio, a division of Atlus dedicated to the Persona series, General Producer Kazuhisa Wada, and Persona 3 Reload Director Shigeo Komori discussed the development of several games in the company.
One of which is the remake of Persona 4, dubbed "Persona 4 Revival." This continues the studio’s trend of reimagining existing titles as definitive editions, which include major improvements in quality and other features.

This also adds a subsequent "R" terminology in the titles, which is a way for the studio to tag it as a remake without explicitly mentioning it. Titles under this trend include Persona 5 Royal (P5R), Persona 3 Reload (P3R), and now, Persona 4 Revival.
P4R was first announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, where the developers teased the game through a short trailer. According to Wada, while Persona 5 Golden already brought refinements to the game, they wanted to create the next "R" title that would not only add more content to the original game but also bring new experiences to players.

He explained, "Persona 4 already packed a ton of content in Persona 4 Golden, so when it comes to creating the next ‘R,’ it’s not just about adding more—we have to create an experience that’s enjoyable in a new and different way. And this includes the sheer volume of content, so to be honest, it’s a tough challenge. But it’s shaping up nicely!"
While they have revealed that P4R is currently in development, Wada noted that he cannot disclose any information about the game’s content or release window yet. Based on Sega’s management meeting in June 2025, fans can expect P4R to be released in or after fiscal year 2027, which will be sometime after April 1, 2026.
Persona 3 Reload Switch 2 Release

Beyond P4R’s development, Wada urged fans to turn their focus first to the upcoming release of P3R on the Nintendo Switch 2. P3R was first released in February 2024 on all major platforms, excluding the Nintendo Switch.
Wada said that they considered developing the port for the original Switch, but it would delay the game’s release by at least a year longer than they originally planned. Komori stated that a direct port to Switch would be challenging for them performance-wise.

He elaborated, "To achieve the same comfortable controls and graphics that matched the hardware, we would have to completely rebuild the UI and art assets. That would push the release back by at least a year."
Wada also mentioned that P3R was initially planned to be released early next year, but since the development is going smoothly, they will be able to launch in October. The game also has a demo available to download on the Nintendo eShop.
Persona series 30th Anniversary and Future Plans

Aside from P3R’s Switch 2 release and P4R’s development, Wada shared that the studio has several projects in development. Additionally, he stated that 2026 will mark the 30th anniversary of the Persona series. "We hope to make it a year where fans can enjoy the series even more," Wada said.
While the studio is gearing up for multiple projects in its future, fans are clamoring for Persona 6 to be revealed soon. Unfortunately, considering Sega’s latest management meeting, it seems that the sequel to the Persona series isn’t going to be announced anytime soon, as it has not been mentioned in their plans.
For now, fans of the series can look forward to the eventual launch of Persona 4 Revival and the Switch 2 port of Persona 3 Reload. Persona 4 Revival is being developed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
