Palworld Breaks Steam Records

Palworld quickly gained traction on Steam and amassed over 4 million copies sold within just three days of its early access release. According to Steam DB, Palworld reached a total of 1,291,967 players over the weekend, outpacing Cyberpunk 2077’s 1,054,388 and Elden Ring’s 953,426 concurrent players.

The game also exceeded the player counts of other well-received titles such as The Game Award's 2023 GOTY, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Warner Bro's top-selling game title, Hogwarts Legacy, within a single day.

While Pocketpair announced on Twitter (X) that Palworld has the "highest concurrent player count of any paid game in the history of Steam," it's important to note that the record for the highest concurrent player count still belongs to the battle royale shooter, PUBG, which reached an all-time peak of 3,257,248 players in 2018 when it was a paid game. Palworld currently holds the fifth position on the all-time list, trailing behind free-to-play games like DOTA 2 and Counter-Strike 2.

Palworld Devs Working on Server Problems

Palworld's gameplay revolves around an open world populated by creatures known as "Pals." Players can capture and battle these Pals for various purposes, including base building, exploration, and combat. We've reviewed Palworld as "definitely worth the small amount of money it’s asking from you".

The game faced server issues due to the overwhelming number of players trying to access the game. The Palworld team assured players that they are "currently working hard to resolve the server outages and other serious issues that are occurring for some players."

While Palworld received acclaim for its unique gameplay, it also faced criticism. Some players raised concerns about alleged plagiarism, notably drawing comparisons to Nintendo's Pokémon. Additionally, claims of the game's use of AI surfaced within the gaming community.
