Amaterasu is back! The Game Awards 2024 revealed that director Hideki Kamiya is pairing up with Capcom for the upcoming Okami sequel. Originally released in 2006, the critically-acclaimed action-adventure title shocked viewers in today's event when it revealed that a sequel was in the works.
Amaterasu and friends will make a comeback with another heartwarming story packed with thrilling adventures to go on in a unique environment all drawn in the Japanese Sumi-e ink art style.

A Dream Come True For Director Kamiya
Director Hideki Kamiya returns as the director for the Okami sequel, which will be co-developed among multiple studios that house various staff members who worked on the original Okami, such as M-TWO Inc., Machine Head Works Inc., and CLOVERS Inc., the last of which Kamiya is the studio head and chief game designer of.
Kamiya is known for his strong desire to create an Okami sequel, saying that he still had unfinished business with the series. In his official comment, he said, "Even at this very moment, my body is filled with both a cautious surprise that this is not a dream, and a joy that cannot be described in words. ... All of this has come together to create this miracle, for which I am deeply grateful. Like a strong rising sun, this project is finally in motion"
