Coming to Nintendo Switch Online
Mother 3 was just revealed at the recent Nintendo Direct. This Game Boy Advance classic will be making its way in Nintendo Switch Online exclusively for Japan.
Mother 3 is an RPG developed by HAL Laboratory and Brownie Brown, released in 2006. It is the third and final installment in the Mother/EarthBound series. The game follows Lucas, a young boy from Nowhere Islands, as he embarks on a journey to prevent an evil force known as the Pigmask Army from having full control of the world.
The cult classic's prequels, known in the West as EarthBound Beginnings and EarthBound, were added to Nintendo Switch Online two years ago. Mother 3’s producer, Shinichi Kameoka, called for the English locatlization of the the GBA classic following its prequels' addition to the Switch Online line-up. "[I] also love to see Mother 3 released in the US and Europe," Kameoka told Nintendo Everything in an interview. "As a lover of games, I will continue to wait for Mother 3’s release worldwide release."
Mother Series Creator, Shigesato Itoi, Pens Letter to Fans
Mother series creator, Shigesato Itoi, posted a letter to fans following Mother 3's announcement at the Nintendo Direct. Itoi recounted the days of working on Mother 3, referring to it as his "last child," and expressed gratitude to the people who showed the game love and grace.
"The game, which came out as the series had gotten older, faced many challenges. Still, I think the game grew to be something people love," wrote Itoi. "I'm so happy the game is able to still be played today and I hope that you continue to shower Mother 3 with the same love."
