Everything We Know About Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta

The open beta includes three key components: Character Creation, the Story Trial, and the Doshaguma Hunt. Character customization in the beta is identical to the full release, allowing players to design their hunter and Palico, with all customizations carrying over to the final game. Progress in the story won’t carry over, so you can hunt freely without pressure.

In the Story Trial, you’ll be guided through the game's opening sequence, including a basic tutorial and a battle against Chatacabra, a formidable early-game foe. For those itching for a greater challenge, the Doshaguma Hunt features a battle against the alpha Doshaguma, a beast that leads its herd across the Windward Plains. This quest supports multiplayer, so bring your friends—or, if they're busy, NPC support hunters will join you on the adventure.

As a thank you for your participation, all Open Beta players will receive exclusive in-game rewards, like a Palico-shaped pendant to decorate your weapons and Seikret. Additionally, participants will receive an item pack containing Mega Potions, Rations, and more. These bonuses will be available as downloadable content once the full game releases on February 28, 2025.

Monster Hunter Wilds’ New Trailer Introduces the “Black Flame” and Oilwell Basin Locale

The "Black Flame" trailer unveiled the Oilwell Basin, a fiery, dynamic locale filled with oil wells that unpredictably burst into flames. This region is inhabited by fearsome new monsters that adapted to its harsh environment. Among these are the Ajarakan, a fanged beast whose shell heats up when it rubs against itself, and the mighty Brute Wyvern Rompopolo, which lurks in the deep oil slits.

Perhaps the most ominous addition is the monster that gave the trailer its name: the Black Flame, the locale’s apex predator. Little is known about the Black Flame, except that it resembles a giant squid and is greatly feared by the people of Azuz, the Everforge.

Moreover, players will have the opportunity to meet the people of Azuz, skilled in the art of forging, who reside near the massive fire forge at the heart of the Oilwell Basin. The trailer suggests that exploring their connection to the land and the forge will be crucial to unraveling deeper mysteries in the full game.

Monster Hunter Wilds DualSense PS5 Controller and Console Cover

Image

Sony also announced that Monster Hunter Wilds will be getting its own DualSense PS5 controller and console cover. The console cover, though subtle, features a black finish with a delicate design on the side. The real star of the show, however, is the DualSense controller. Its red base perfectly complements the battles and landscapes players will encounter in the game, such as the Scarlet Forest and its apex predator, Uth Duna.

Unfortunately, the Monster Hunter Wilds-themed controller and console cover are currently Japan-exclusive items. This might leave international fans disappointed, but import options are available for those eager enough to pay the extra cost.

According to Sony, these items will be available in limited quantities. The controller will retail for ¥12,480 (roughly $80), and the console cover will be priced at ¥9,980 (more or less $65). Pre-orders will open on Wednesday, October 30 at PlayStation retailers in Japan. There is currently no information regarding the availability of these items in other regions.
