Monster Hunter Wilds Team Encourages Players to Return
Different Approach For New Players

Monster Hunter Wilds director Yuya Tokuda expressed his hope that more players would return while speaking at the PlayStation Partner Awards 2025 Japan/Asia, especially as they've added new content and updates since the game's initial launch.
The latest entry of the long-running series has been suffering from a steep drop in player count due to veteran players finding the base game content too easy, with several in the community feeling as though it catered heavily towards newcomers.
Many long-time fans were disappointed, leading them to shun the game early on and compare it to its predecessor, Monster Hunter World. Negative comments emerged regarding MH Wilds’ launch, criticizing the lack of challenge in the base game and the poor optimization performance.

In the live interview with IGN, Tokuda acknowledged this and explained, "We analyzed what kind of places beginners were stuck in, including Monster Hunter: World… This time, as a result of making the game easy to beat even for new players and players who could not clear it before, I think the difficulty curve was a little lacking for existing users."
To address these issues, the team has progressively incorporated challenging content through each title update and collaboration, enticing players to return. Tokuda added, "If you beat the game immediately after its release and stopped playing, I would appreciate it if you could pick it up again."
Despite receiving backlash on launch, Monster Hunter Wilds has seen a fair amount of updates and improvements. Tokuda continues to urge their players to revisit the game, noting the progress and changes made since its initial release.
Thankful for User’s Choice Award

During the PlayStation Partner Awards 2025 Japan/Asia event, the developers of Monster Hunter Wilds were honored with the Grand Award and the User's Choice Award, serving as proof of the progress they've made since launch. Reflecting on their time with this project, the team humbly acknowledged the harsh feedback they received early on and their ongoing efforts to better the game.
"Immediately after the release, we apologized for the inconvenience caused by the volume of content and the difficulty level. Despite this, we were delighted to receive various awards, including the Users' Choice Award." Tokuda commented. He expressed gratitude to players for their feedback and support, which helped the team focus its efforts on important updates.

"Monster Hunter has the characteristics of a title that gets regular updates, but player opinions were very helpful during the update process, and in order to make Monster Hunter Wilds better, the fans’ voices gave us power." added Ryozo Tsujimoto, producer of MH Wilds, in their interview with IGN. "There are still updates left to come, so we will continue to do our best."
The team believes that the feedback they received played a crucial role in earning the award, especially with the honest criticisms from the community. As they continue to deliver fixes and updates, they remain hopeful that players will continue to enjoy Monster Hunter Wilds as it improves.
