Monster Hunter Wilds Overview
Monster Hunter Wilds is the sixth mainline entry of the Monster Hunter series where players take on quests that revolve around gathering resources, and slaying or capturing varieties of monsters using specialized tools and weapons in various environments. The game is being developed and published by CAPCOM, who have continually refined and expanded on the series since its first release back in 2004 with Monster Hunter for the PS2 and Nintendo Wii.
The gameplay has kept its identity as an action RPG with new additions and changes to overall movement and movesets throughout the years. Monster Hunter Wilds will be released on several platforms namely: PC (Steam, Epic Games), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It was also announced that the game will have crossplay and that upcoming updates will be simultaneous on release.
Monster Hunter Wilds Gameplay
Monster Hunter Wilds will have players take control of Hunters who are tasked with taking on quests with different objectives, mainly: Gathering, Hunting (Slaying or Capturing), or other Special Event quests. The game will follow a series of quests consisting of the main storyline, where players will be introduced to different monsters, quest types, and even different objectives that comprise of the game's core gameplay loop.
After completing the main campaign, players can take on different endgame quests and monster variants to further strengthen their gear to take on even stronger threats. Throughout the game's lifespan, various Title Updates will include different monsters, new event quests, and special gear will be added. Additionally, the game will most likely get an expansion similar to the series last two releases (Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak) which will require players to finish the game's main campaign to gain access to the DLC.
Monster Hunter Wilds Reviews
Most Anticipated Game For Early 2025!
Monster Hunter Wilds has yet to be released, which means the game still doesn't have concrete scores to judge the game's overall rating. However, Capcom did give its players a taste of the game's new mechanics, changes, and story with its recently concluded Open Beta. Game8 described the game as the "King of Monster Hunting Action" where the reviewer praised the game's audiovisual presentation, specifically the music, and the bigger involvement of the player-character in the game's story.
In terms of gameplay, the game has received mixed criticisms. While the core gameplay loop and weapons are excellent as they've usually been, the main issues that the Beta presented were a myriad of performance issues and not-so-satisfying animations due to a lack of hitstop, which makes the weapons feel weak. Nevertheless, the game remains to be one of the most anticipated games in the coming year, with the developers promising to give the "pinnacle of monster hunting action" experience to veterans and newcomers alike.
