Minecraft Legends, the action-strategy spin-off from Mojang's popular sandbox game Minecraft, is concluding its active development less than a year after its launch in April 2023. Read on to know more.
Mojang Ends Development for Minecraft Legends with Lost Legends: Snow vs Snout Update
Get the Bright-Eyed Hero Skin Farewell Freebie on Minecraft Legends Marketplace
Mojang and Blackbird Studio declared that Minecraft Legends will no longer receive updates following the Lost Legends: Snow vs Snout update. In an official blog post, Mojang stated, "Since launch, we've listened to community feedback and implemented a series of changes and tweaks to make the game better. With that complete, we're now going to take a step back from development."
The Snow vs Snouts update introduces a new combat style to the game, in which players focus on destroying piglin bases from afar using an enhanced version of the redstone launcher. The modified launcher boasts a faster cooldown and (de)construction rate, increased mobility and attack power, and a satisfying knockback effect.
"Here’s the catch: in this Lost Legend you can’t control mobs or build other structures – the single redstone launcher is all you have at your disposal to take down the piglins," noted Mojang. Complete the challenge to get the Snow Guardian Hero Skin.
Mojang also leaves the Minecraft Legends community with a parting gift in the form of a final freebie, the Bright-Eyed Hero Skin, which can be claimed on Minecraft Legends Marketplace.
Mojang Will Continue Providing Technical Support and Maintaining Servers
Despite the end of new content updates, Mojang reassured players that the existing Lost Legends challenges would remain accessible for free and that technical support for the game would still be provided. PvP and cooperative modes would continue to function without any feature removal.
Minecraft Legends, co-developed by Blackbird Interactive, received mixed reviews upon its release in April 2023. The game proved to be less than stellar compared to its main counterpart. It experienced a decline in community interest due to several issues and a buggy release.
"Some players might have a problem with the game’s repetitiveness, while others might not notice it because of the game’s short length. Our team came across a few bugs on the PC version. There are also times when the game just refuses to start. It’ll load for a bit and suddenly disappear," as noted in our review of the game.
Nevertheless, Mojang expressed gratitude for the support received from its community, "Thank you for following along this heroic journey and helping us make Minecraft Legends the game it is today."
The studio continued, "We’ll continue exploring the types of games we're passionate about and bringing new experiences to the Minecraft universe," hinting at potential future Minecraft spin-offs.
