Mafia: The Old Country Free Ride Update Revealed
Launches Today
Mafia: The Old Country’s upcoming free update adds a plethora of content to the 1900s action crime RPG. As announced by developer Hangar 13 and 2K Games on November 20, the "Free Ride" update is set to launch today, and is available for free for all players.
In a PlayStation blog post on November 20, 2K Content Manager Peter Armato shared more details about the game’s latest free update. "Free Ride is a callback to the original Mafia’s Free Ride Extreme, as well as the Free Ride mode we shipped in Mafia: Definitive Edition. It’s a collection of Challenges separate from the main story that give players chances to revisit the world in a more self-guided way. Mafia: The Old Country’s Free Ride mode will be slightly different from previous titles, yet familiar to returning fans all the same," he explained.

The developers initially revealed plans to add Free Ride to the game days after Old Country launched in August 2025. As mentioned, Free Ride is a returning feature that dates back to the first Mafia game, where players take on extreme challenges and earn exclusive rewards.
Armato noted that the Free Ride update gives players the chance to "experience the Valle Dorata in the most immersive way possible" and other sceneries through the First-Person Driving feature. Additionally, the update introduces a new Photo Mode that allows players to "find some action and beautiful vistas, and take amazing screenshots to share with friends."
Races and Combat Challenges

Aside from exploration, the main highlight of the update is the introduction of new activities that will enhance the experience of players in Old Country. From car and horseback races to Combat Challenges, fans will immerse themselves further in the land of Valle Dorata.
There will be two types of combat challenges: Stand-offs and Assassinations. "Standoffs push your limits when it comes to openly engaging enemies, and Assassinations are fun to experiment with until you nail that perfect run," Armato stated.
Additionally, he said that fans will be treated to an unexpected discovery when playing the game after the update. Armato hinted, "There is one piece of content I think players are going to find especially intriguing and unexpected, though I don’t want to spoil it. Keep an eye out for notes in Enzo’s apartment—one may end up revealing something cool to investigate."
Main Campaign Improvements and Additions

Old Country’s single-player campaign will also receive several additions, starting with a new visual option, "Cinema Siciliano." Inspired by vintage Italian-style cinema, this feature transforms tha game to a more classic feel, rendering black-and-white filter and old-school audio mix.
Beyond visuals, the developers have added the Classic difficulty, which heightens the challenges and raises the stakes for each mission. To aid players in this tougher option, all new items and rewards, such as guns, knives, charms, outfits, and vehicles, earned from playing Free Ride can be used in the main story campaign.

"For new players, all of these elements will be present from the start, and having them as options throughout the game is going to be awesome. I’d recommend playing through on one of the original difficulties first, but if you’re confident in your skills—or just want to get punished—Classic puts them to the ultimate test," Armato said.
