Lords of the Fallen 2 Kicking Off Gamescom Opening Night
Gamescom Opening Night Live Happening on August 19

Lords of the Fallen 2 developer CI Games’ CEO Marek Tyminski revealed on Twitter (X) that the upcoming soulslike will be getting an official unveiling at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19. The game has been confirmed to be in the works for a while now, but this will be the first chance for fans to catch an official glimpse of the forthcoming project.
The news was first teased last week in a cryptic tweet by perennial games convention host Geoff Keighley. Fans were quick to speculate several potential projects, with a possible Bloodborne sequel being the prevailing theory. Less than 24 hours later, Tyminski revealed that it was Lords of the Fallen 2 that was set to be unveiled at Gamescom.
In addition to the reveal, the developer team announced in their monthly "Lifting the Veil" behind-the-scenes series that they will be putting up a tattoo studio at Gamescom, citing the parallels between tattoos and soulslikes’ inherent elements of suffering, artistry, and commitment as the rationale.
The teased project will be a direct sequel to 2023’s Lord of the Fallen, which, in itself, is a soft reboot and follow-up to CI Games’ 2014 release of the exact same name.
## Lords of the Fallen Through the Years

2014’s Lords of the Fallen is known to be one of the first games to come from outside of FromSoftware to take a crack at the Soulsborne formula, thus helping spawn the soulslike genre. Despite the bold move, the original’s reception was underwhelming, with players and media outlets largely giving the game mixed reviews and average scores.
Thankfully, the IP’s reboot was markedly more successful, selling over a million copies in its first 10 days, when the original couldn’t reach that mark in its first 7 months. The 2023 title was even able to overcome a myriad of technical issues at launch and is now standing at a respectable score of 75 on Metacritic, with some players calling it a "must-play for soulslike fans."

Devs Promising More of What Players Love

On Lifting the Veil, the developers revealed that the sequel will be building further on what players enjoy instead of going in a brand new direction. "We’re not upgrading the wheel. We’re upgrading the engine," said game director James Lowe.
The developers have also mentioned that the sequel will be "R-rated." To be clear, R ratings are reserved for motion pictures, and the predecessor already had a similar Mature 17+ ESRB rating, but the developers have promised to double-down on the franchise’s purposeful brutality and adult dark fantasy themes. "It will be quite interesting to see the tapestry of blood," Lowe said of the sequel.

Lords of the Fallen 2 will be releasing sometime in 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. To stay up to date on the latest CI Games project, click the button below.
