SM Entertainment & Kakao Games Launching Mobile Game, “SM Game Station”
Slated to Release Worldwide in the Second Half of 2024
Renowned entertainment company, SM Entertainment, and Kakao Games, video game publisher and subsidiary of Kakao, have announced a partnership to develop a new mobile game. The partnership was announced following a signing ceremony at SM Entertainment’s headquarters in Seoul, South Korea last Monday.
Kakao Games, publisher of MMORPG Odin: Valhalla Rising and Cygame's Uma Musume Pretty Derby mobile game, will be in charge of the global publishing of the upcoming game. Meanwhile, game development will be handled by Metabora, Kakao Games’ gaming initiative affiliate.
"We are happy to offer diverse content for our K-pop fans to enjoy. We will continue to make efforts to collaborate with other units of Kakao Corp. to create diverse content," SM Entertainment CEO Jang Cheol-hyuk stated in a press release.
Tentatively titled "SM Game Station," the game is slated for a global launch in the second half of 2024. Using SM Entertainment's artist intellectual property, it allows players to step into the shoes of a manager and oversee the careers of renowned K-pop stars including EXO, Red Velvet, aespa, NCT, SNSD, and more.
In "SM Game Station," players can collect photo cards and take charge of the artists’ schedules, promotion of new albums and projects, and develop new talents within the game's virtual world.
"We are planning to provide a new entertainment experience in the global digital content market by combining our service and development capability with SM Entertainment’s strong content power," said Kakao Games Corp. CEO Han Sang-woo.
