inZOI Director Teases a Karma System
Deceased Zois Transforms into Ghosts, Depending on their Karma Points
In a Discord post on February 7, 2025, inZOI game director Hyungjun Kim teased a Karma system for the game which will allow deceased Zois to be transformed into ghosts, depending on their Karma points.
Despite the focus on realism, Kim teases a paranormal game mechanic in inZOI involving a Karma system and ghosts. According to him, "If a Zoi dies with enough karma points, they move on to the afterlife, but those who don’t make the cut have to remain as ghosts until they restore sufficient karma points." However, Kim has not yet revealed what actions you can take to restore said points.
Kim also emphasized that they "want to keep the playability of ghosts fairly limited so it doesn’t overshadow the main gameplay, but we also want to make sure the experience is engaging enough when it does happen." In its Early Access version, players can only engage in special conversations with ghost Zois "at set times under certain conditions."
"While we’re committed to refining the realistic elements of inZOI first, I’d love to explore more fantasy-driven elements in the future," Kim shared. "Occasionally stepping away from the game's native, ultra-realistic setting could add an extra layer of fun to our simulation of this vast and complex concept we call life!"
inZOI Karma Interaction Briefly Revealed
In August 2024, inZOI publisher Krafton Inc. partnered with several content creators to post sponsored videos about the game. MadMorph, one of its partners, briefly teases inZOI’s Karma system.
Fifteen minutes into MadMorph’s inZOI video, he briefly showed a particular action that Zois can perform, called Karma Interactions. Choosing the option shows a plethora of actions that you can do, which can increase or decrease Karma points. For instance, MadMorph’s character secretly farted on another Zois face, triggering a reaction from that NPC. There are also good deeds in this option, like "Throw Away Trash" or "Like a Friend’s post," but it wasn’t done in the video.
Though Kim clarified that the Early Access version of the game will only feature gameplay "while the Zois are still alive," the Karma Interactions option will have more impact in the future. Players excited to try this game will just have to wait for less than 6 weeks as inZOI is releasing as an Early Access game on Steam on March 28, 2025.
