Hytale Console Release and Riot Games Remarks
Console Confirmed, But Will Come Later
Hytale is planned to be released on consoles, but developer Hypixel wants to prioritize making the game good first. As stated on Hytale’s 1st FAQ page, the voxel adventure’s Early Access launch is only available on PC, with MAC and Linux devices still to be determined.
Regarding its console release, the developers noted that it will come at a later stage as they admitted that it "requires a lot of work on backend systems to make this a reality." Furthermore, Hypixel is also deliberating on whether to bring Hytale to mobile or not, and will give an update on their decision in the future.
As of the moment, Hytale is only accessible through the game’s own launcher, available on its official website. The developers also addressed fan inquiries about putting Hytale on Steam, stating that they currently have no plans to bring the game to third-party apps.
Their primary reasoning for this is that they want to work on the game with its existing community, and bringing Hytale to other apps may invite unwanted criticisms that could affect the game’s development. "We simply want the first steps of our journey to be influenced by informed players rather than large-scale first impressions from those unfamiliar with the game’s development background," Hypixel said.
While the developers have not ruled out the possibility of a Steam release, they currently see no immediate need for it. Hypixel also pointed out that Steam's current infrastructure doesn't support several key modding tools, which are considered critical to the game's long-term success.
Riot Games Congratulates Hypixel
After the successful launch of Hytale, former Hypixel owner Riot Games congratulated the studio through a Twitter (X) post on January 13. Hypixel replied and thanked the League of Legends studio for helping them bring the game home.
Riot Games was a prominent figure in the long and storied development process of Hytale. After providing an initial investment in 2016, Riot Games fully acquired Hypixel Studios in 2020, providing the resources to transform Hytale into a triple-A competitor within the sandbox genre.
Following a series of internal challenges and missed milestones, Riot Games decided to cancel Hytale and dissolve Hypixel Studios in early 2025. However, Hypixel Co-Founder Simon Collins-Laflamme negotiated a deal with Riot in November 2025 to buy back their studio and the Hypixel brand.
Since then, the relationship between the two studios has been amicable, as seen in their recent exchange on Twitter (X). Regardless, Hytale seems to be in good shape with its early access release, and fans are looking forward to see more of the sandbox RPG.
