Hideo Kojima Reflects on Independence on Twitter (X)
Following the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in 2015, Hideo Kojima severed ties with Konami, citing disagreements with the company. Soon after, he established his own studio, Kojima Productions.
In a recent tweet, Kojima shared his viewpoint on independence, emphasizing that for him, "creating things" goes beyond the realms of a conventional job. He expressed a commitment to a lifelong career, proclaiming, "Creating things is living."
Kojima touched on the oppositions he encountered when venturing into independence in the game industry. He said peers, colleagues, and relatives were vocal in their opposition, telling him that "it was impossible without the financial and organizational strength of a company."
He expressed that being an independent game developer is a testament to his core philosophy for "creating things." He further added in the tweet, "However, someone must prove that that is an old-fashioned way of thinking. Young creators must be given freedom of choice. This is one of the reasons why I continue to ‘create things’."
