Square Enix Shows Off Paranormasight’s Cast and Mini-Games
Paranormasight’s Cast Faces the Mermaid’s Curse
Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse , an upcoming supernatural mystery game developed and published by Square Enix, has revealed more details about its characters and gameplay. Square Enix’s website page for The Mermaid’s Curse has been updated recently to include introductions and descriptions of certain key characters, including protagonist Yuza Minakuchi, as well as his childhood friends Azami Kumoi and Tsukasa Awao.
Yuza is described as a "quiet but self-assured" young man who is also one of Kameshima’s resident pearl divers. Yuza gathers pearls alongside his friend and fellow aquaculturist Azami, a fisherman who inherited his father’s boat. After an expedition leads to an encounter with a surreal doppelganger, Yuza must investigate the succeeding anomalies on the island alongside his friends.
Newcomers to Kameshima like American author Arnav Barnum and British exorcist Circe Lunarlight were also revealed on the website. These characters were stated to have relocated to Kameshima out of a fascination with the Mermaid’s Curse, so they’re most likely crucial players in the narrative.
Square Enix has also released a brand-new media kit for The Mermaid’s Curse featuring new characters, such as Chie Toyama and Yuza’s grandmother, Tsuyu Minakuchi. Additionally, the media kit also reveals a few gameplay features, including brand-new mini-games.
Aquatic Pastimes and Sticker Collection Await
Gameplay-wise, Paranormasight: The Mermaid Curse will be continuing the series’ signature visual novel gameplay, with last week’s Nintendo Partner Direct reveal trailer briefly showing Paranormasight staples like branching dialogue options and point-and-click-style investigation. The recently released press kit also reveals that the Mocking Birds, mysterious collectible stickers that appear throughout the game, will also be making a return to The Mermaid’s Curse.
New to the series, though, is the addition of "Underwater Diving" to Paranormasight. This is a minigame feature , where players can play as Kameshima pearl divers and harvest sea creatures. Players can raise their diver ranks and enhance their gathering skills, but it is currently unknown whether this will affect the story's outcome.
