Elden Ring’s live-action film adaptation is now in development, as announced today by publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment and American film company A24.

Headed by renowned screenwriter and director Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Civil War, Warfare), the live-action of Elden Ring aspires to "bring the epic world and intense action" of the game to the silver screen. It will be produced by Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich from DNA Films, as well as A Song of Ice and Fire creator George R. R. Martin and Game of Thrones co-executive producer Vince Gerardis. It is currently unknown if FromSoftware president and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki will have a hand in its development.

Further details, such as the overall plot and cast members, are yet to be revealed. Fans are surely now being kept on their toes, as more announcements may be coming real soon.

Elden Ring Coming Off Strong This 2025

While Elden Ring, the live-action movie, may not be coming out anytime soon, the video game series is still going strong with new releases. The first title of the franchise, Elden Ring, was originally launched in 2022 and since then, it has cemented itself as one of the most popular games of all time, selling over 13.4 million copies within five weeks of its release. Recently, it celebrated selling a total of 30 million copies worldwide by April 2025, as posted by the official Elden Ring X (Twitter), thanking all of the Tarnished that have embarked on a journey across the Lands Between. It is also known for being one of the most awarded titles in video game history, with over 324 individual Game of the Year accolades across several media bodies and award ceremonies. Its 2024 DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, received similar attention as the base game as well.

FromSoftware has no signs of stopping with the franchise, as it welcomes 2025 with not one, but two new releases for players to enjoy. Firstly, the Elden Ring spinoff, Elden Ring Nightreign, is a co-op action game set in a realm called Limveld where players take on the roles of Nightfarers, individuals tasked to stop the rise of the Nightlord. It will feature familiar elements of the original Elden Ring, but redesigned for a completely new multiplayer co-op experience. Nightreign is set for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 30th.

Secondly, the all-complete edition of Elden Ring for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, called the Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, is set to release sometime this year. It will include the previous DLC Shadow of the Erdtree as well as four new armor sets and a customization feature for either of the three Torrent the Spectral Steed variants. While not a launch title for the highly anticipated console, fans can look forward to having Elden Ring ready on the Switch 2 soon.
