Dying Light: The Beast's latest update is a complete overhaul of the game, creating a more intense survival experience through new game modes.
Techland Completely Changes Dying Light: The Beast With Restored Land

Dying Light: The Beast is receiving a new update titled Restored Land, which adds new content in the form of game modes, features, gameplay mechanics, and more. Here’s what we learned from the official press release event we were invited to.
Restored Land is More Than Just a Typical Update

Techland officially confirmed that a new and definitive experience will arrive in Dying Light: The Beast Restored Land. While the developers are already known for supporting their titles with expansions and improvements post-launch, Franchise Director Tymon Smektala emphasizes that "this is different. This is bigger, and it deserves its own name."
The Restored Land is a complete overhaul of the base game, including, but not limited to, endgame adjustments, progression changes, added interactions, completely new game modes, and a multitude of quality-of-life upgrades.
In addition to these major changes, everything from the base game to all post-launch updates, such as New Game+, Legend Progression, and more, will be included in this new version, along with items and other DLC. And as an extra bonus, players who already own Dying Light: The Beast will receive Restored Land for free once it releases on March 26, 2026.
Restored Land Allows You to Bring Life Back to Castor Woods

Restored Land is a game mode accessible from the game’s title screen that intensifies its survival aspects by introducing new mechanics and drastically changing the gameplay loop. These come in the form of additional parameters to manage, such as hunger and battery power for your various light sources, as well as non-respawning zombies and loot drops.
Restored Land is exclusively a single-player mode, and it can only be played in either Survival or Brutal difficulty. While the core gameplay loop remains the same as in the base game, the new survival mechanics force players to stay mobile and efficient as they continually scavenge for supplies, complete activities for EXP, and loot areas for better gear and resources.
With increased difficulty, loot containers will provide fewer supplies, and shop prices will gradually rise as certain stock or items become scarce. Open-world activities like Convoys that contain military gear, indoor infected Dark Zones with valuable blueprints and loot, and Volatile Hives that function as breeding grounds for these special infected can also only be completed or destroyed once, limiting challenge rewards and materials to farm.

The developers mentioned that the added challenge is essential to the new "empowering" experience they’re trying to achieve: the restoration of the city. The removal of zombie respawns means that players can effectively create safer environments to explore afterwards, as long as the infected are dealt with first.
Cleaning up designated areas will allow survivor NPCs to move in and engage in day-to-day activities while also celebrating the peace in keeping the streets free from the infected. Smektała calls seeing the previously decayed land flourish under the player’s care a "breakthrough moment of this experience."
Game Director Nathan Lemaire also noted the potential impact of destroying Volatile Hives. One part of Dying Light’s gameplay loop has been its day-and-night cycle, especially with how the Volatiles, the more powerful and dangerous night stalkers, tend to roam and chase you during these times. Eliminating them would reduce roaming Volatiles across the region, ultimately making nighttime safer and more comfortable to explore.
Go Hardcore With One-Life Mode

Alongside the Restored Land revamp, players can also choose to try out the difficult One Life game mode, the "ultimate test of how good you are in surviving a zombie apocalypse," describes Smektała. Literal to its name, death is permanent and will lead to the deletion of the player’s saved file.
However, those who successfully complete a run will be rewarded with various rewards such as weapons, gears, cosmetics, and a special in-game announcement for online sessions in which the accomplished player’s arrival is preceded by the cry "The Ultimate Survivor has joined the game."
Roadkill Rallies Bring Carmageddon

Techland also introduced a brand new activity called "Roadkill Rallies" to Castor Woods for players who may want "more action, more gory, more brutal" gameplay. Players can take a specialized car built to ram through zombies while competing in a series of vehicle races. Playable in both solo and co-op, players must optimize a route that kills the target number of zombies while being able to reach the finish line within the time limit to earn a gold medal.
Challengers that manage to obtain all gold medals will unlock the "Roadkiller," an upgraded, tougher model of the rally vehicle. To make it a truly special reward, this version of the race car can be used freely in the overworld, offering a stronger, more comfortable, and more brutal way of traversal.
More Interactions and Quality of Life Improvements Included

Aside from the major overhauls, Restored Land encompasses a wide range of new quest interactions with quality-of-life improvements. More specifically, players can experience over 35 more quest encounters scattered throughout the maps while progressing through the game and its story, adding more narrative depth to the world of Dying Light.
These encounters are primarily self-contained stories discovered through environmental storytelling and collectible notes across different locations. There are new faction-related interactions, during which players can choose whether to observe or engage in such encounters, making the immersion and setting feel more alive.

For the gameplay experience, the update brings 5 new brutal finishers for the Special Infected, increased enemy variety with lower-level zombie mobs, dodge timing adjustments, and sound effect fixes. Co-op play also receives some improvements, such as a Ping system, a Recently Played players history feature, and additional rewards for playing in co-op mode. A new leaderboard system will also be included, allowing players to track their progress in both Restored Land and the Roadkill Rallies mode.
As for smaller yet intriguing additions, Techland also revealed that they will have 5 new hidden stashes, or Easter eggs, in the next update. Finding said obscure items rewards players with new gear and weapons to take down zombies.
Dying Light: The Beast Restored Land launches on March 26, 2026, at 7:00 AM PT for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
