Dune Awakening Reimburses Players After Bases and Equipment Were Wiped by Latest Update

Image

Dune Awakening reimburses players as the latest major update wiped their bases and equipment. Read on to learn more about the issue of lost items and vehicles, and the game’s current exploit concerns.

Dune Awakening’s Latest Update Caused Dilemma

Reimbursing Lost Bases and Equipment

Dune Awakening developer Funcom promised players that they would reimburse lost bases and equipment following their latest update. In a Twitter (X) post on July 9, the developers stated that they are currently working hard to address the issue and shared additional information about the situation on their website.

The game’s latest patch, released on July 7, introduced changes to the layout of the Deep Desert, which unfortunately also enabled the PvE area to become PvP. It also caused several losses of bases and equipment, much to the shock and disappointment of players.

According to Funcom, this change was supposed to take place in the next Coriolis Cycle, and they apologized for the inconvenience it brought. They stated, "We are working to reimburse vehicles and items (to the best of our ability) to players who were impacted by this. You can expect the reimbursed materials, items, and vehicle components to show up in the in-game ‘Claim Rewards’ tab by the end of this week."

The developers also stated that they are working on improving their tools to find better ways to reimburse the lost items, but ask for players’ patience as they have a backlog of customer support requests. "Our aim is to resolve support tickets as quickly as we can, including tickets that were closed near launch when we weren’t able to properly reimburse players," they stated.

Those who have lost a vehicle to a bug and require assistance can submit a ticket in-game, specifying the type of vehicle, tier, and how it was lost. Funcom emphasized, "The development team has been also working to address the root causes of the item loss in game. We have a dedicated team focused on mitigating vehicle/item loss on server crashes, disconnects, server mesh transfers, and travelling between maps."

Despite these issues, fans continue to support the game as it received "Mostly Positive" reviews on Steam. Here at Game8, we gave Dune Awakening a 74 out of 100 for its robust survival game content and gameplay in its vast open world. However, its melee combat, performance, and servers can still be improved. To know more about our thoughts on the game, check out our article below!

More Fixes and Updates in the Coming Weeks and Months Against Exploits

Beyond the lost equipment, Funcom is also working on several fixes and updates on different aspects of the game. Most notably, their primary goal over the next few weeks and months is to crack down on all identified exploits, such as the use of "third-party cheat engines, client hacks, or in-game exploitation of game mechanics."

They noted, "We have zero tolerance for the type of player behaviour that has an impact on the experience of other players, and we will continue to focus on ensuring that players can enjoy the game as it is intended. If you see someone cheating or exploiting, please report them to us using the available reporting channels."

Furthermore, they mentioned that they have taken action against several hundred players who have used these exploits, and that more bans will come as they identify these wrongdoers. So far, Funcom has resolved some of these, including account/permission spoofing, Vehicle ownership takeover, increased Damage/insta-kill attacks, and more.

To combat these hackers and exploits, a dedicated team was made to ensure that the game’s integrity and fairness are maintained. This team will deliver additional adjustments over the next patches to Dune Awakening’s security and preventive measures.

As part of the game’s improvement, Funcom will deploy a hotfix to resolve the mentioned issues on July 10 at 10:00 AM CEST/ 8:00 UTC. They estimate that servers will be down for around 90 minutes, and patch notes will be available once the update is live. Fans hope that this next patch will alleviate their concerns, especially with the items lost and rampant exploits.

Dune: Awakening is now available for PC, while releases for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will come at an unannounced later date. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
